Syncom Venture Partners, a Silver Spring, Maryland-headquartered early to mid stage venture capital firm focused on the media and communications sectors, has appointed three new professionals to its investment team. Amiel C Bent, Robert L Greene and Stanley T Smith have joined the firm as principals. Bent is responsible for identifying and leading deals through the various stages of Syncom's investment process. He will also work with the firm's portfolio companies. Prior to joining Syncom, Bent served as a senior manager of strategic business analysis for MCI Telecommunications. He also held positions in corporate product analysis and strategy, internet business operations, and competitive analysis and ventures for MCI.
Smith is also responsible for identifying and leading deals and work with portfolio companies. Smith joins the Syncom investment team after ten years in various strategy, M&A and business development roles for companies operating in the internet, entertainment and new media sectors. Previously he served as director of corporate development for Yahoo!'s Search Marketing Group and as director of M&A for Overture. Prior to that, Smith held the positions of director of business development for Universal Music Group's eLabs division and manager of strategy and corporate development for Universal Studios.
Greene will lead Syncom's investor relations and support the business development and deal sourcing processes. Prior to joining the firm, Greene served as president and CEO of the National Association of Investment Companies. In the past he co-founded and served as the inaugural president of The Marathon Club, and served as director of private equity in Arthur Andersen's Transaction Advisory Services Group.
Syncom manages approximately $450m of private equity capital on behalf of its investors.
