 Austin Ventures has hired Joe Marengi, a former Dell and Novell executive, as a venture partner. As part of his new role, Marengi will work with portfolio companies LifeSize Communications, Sipera Systems and Copan Systems, in addition to helping evaluate new investment opportunities throughout the US and internationally.
Austin Ventures general partner Venu Shamapant said, 'Joe's background is an ideal fit with many of Austin Ventures' portfolio companies. AV has always had significant investments in the enterprise IT markets and we believe that Joe's background can be immensely helpful to these companies. Additionally, Joe's depth of experience and contacts, both domestic and international, will be extremely valuable to our current and future portfolio companies.'
Marengi currently serves on the board of directors for Hovnanian Enterprises and Quantum Corporation. Additionally, he has worked with companies such as US Web and Vignette.
Marengi will be based in Austin, Texas.
With $3bn under management across nine funds, Austin Ventures provides start-up and growth capital to emerging companies. The firm invests across the US but maintains a particular focus on Texas and the South West of the US.
