UK firm Octopus Private Equity has opened its first regional office in Leeds. The new office is headed up by Richard Taylor, who has operated in the region for nearly 15 years. Prior to joining Octopus in July 2006, Taylor spent seven years at Yorkshire Fund Managers, preceding this he was with Deloitte.
Taylor said, 'The opening of an office in Leeds will allow us to further build upon our successes, as well as demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the region. Yorkshire is undoubtedly a very exciting market and we have recognised that there are huge opportunities across the region, so we are looking forward to identifying and developing them over the coming months.'
Octopus Private Equity is a division of Octopus Investments, a fund manager and private equity investor into fast growing SME companies. Octopus specialises in providing £2-8m of equity finance for MBOs, MBIs, and development capital for UK companies in transactions with an enterprise value of typically up to £25m.
Octopus Investments has also announced that it has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Katalyst Ventures, a private investor group formed by a group of entrepreneurs and businessmen to provide capital and business expertise to small companies. Katalyst will be renamed Octopus Ventures with immediate effect.
Simon Rogerson, chief executive, Octopus Investments, said, 'As well as offering a strong commercial logic, the businesses present an ideal cultural fit. Changes in VCT regulation has focused investment onto smaller companies than before. Katalyst are specialists in investing in micro-cap companies so the transaction creates the opportunity to enhance our deal flows and consolidate Octopus's position within smaller companies fund management.'
