UK mid-market buy-out firm Gresham Private Equity has established a dedicated energy and environmental team, headed by partners Andy Marsh and Christian Bruning. The new team will seek to take advantage of sustained high energy prices, the international reach of UK energy firms and the trend towards outsourcing operational requirements to third parties. It will also invest in firms with expertise in opening up previously uneconomic oil and gas reserves.
Marsh said, 'We want to increase our level of investment in companies that benefit from the structural and technological changes currently being experienced in the [energy] sector. We are particularly attracted to firms that have an exposure to sub-sea oil and gas production.'
Bruning added, 'For companies of all sizes, minimising environmental impact is increasingly becoming an economic issue as well as a social responsibility issue. We are keen to help companies in waste management and recycling industries.'
Gresham already has a number of investments in the energy and environmental sector, including oil and gas recruitment company Swift and Olaer, which produces hydraulic components used in wind and wave power generation.
Gresham focuses on deals typically valued up to £100m and has expertise in the business and support services, consumer, financial services, energy, healthcare/pharmaceuticals and industrial products sectors.
