Dutch pension fund ABP in negotiations to team up with Cordares14/11/2007. Source: AltAssets.
ABP and Cordares, two Dutch pension funds, are in talks and could merge next year, creating one of the world's largest pension funds. Through close cooperation, both parties wish to realise a further professionalisation of their services for their members and a better competitive position in the Dutch and international pension and asset management markets through economies of scale,' according to a statement.
The statement continues that if a merger happened, 'this would result in one of the world's largest collective pension-administration organisations, with over 4,000 employees. The new company would manage a pension capital of €245bn for close to four million people.'
ABP administers pension schemes for employers and employees in the service of the Dutch government and the educational sector. The €220bn fund serves 2.7 million members. ABP is one of AlpInvest's main shareholders, with the other one being PGGM.
Cordares is a €26.5bn pension fund serving the Dutch construction sector.
