HgCapital bolsters consumer and leisure team28/11/2007. Source: AltAssets.
European private equity firm HgCapital has appointed Jason Khaksar and Sophie Albizua to join its consumer and leisure investment team. Recently, the firm completed a £190m acquisition of Americana, the owner of the Bench clothing brand. Other investments have included The Sanctuary Spa, Sporting Index and the leading German toy manufacturer Schleich.
HgCapital's most recent investment in the consumer and leisure sector was the £190m acquisition of Manchester-based fashion business Americana International, owner of the Bench and Hooch brands. Other investments include The Sanctuary Spa, Sporting Index and Schleich.
Khaksar joins from KPMG Corporate Finance where he spent 12 years advising on mid-market private equity transactions.
Albizua previously was at Change Capital Partners. Prior to that, she served at Goldman Sachs in London in the consumer and retail M&A team.
Richard Mathews, head of HgCapital's consumer and leisure team, said, 'Jason and Sophie's appointments are an exciting development for our business. The timing of their appointments is significant. In the UK, we face less certain economic times which we believe will throw up very interesting opportunities in the consumer and leisure sector. HgCapital has a history of successful investments at all points of the economic cycle.'
HgCapital focuses on investments with an enterprise value in the €75-750m range. The firm manages approximately €2.7bn.
