Carlyle, Mercapital to acquire Arsys for €160m19/12/2007. Source: AltAssets. 
The Carlyle Group and Spanish private equity firm Mercapital have agreed to jointly acquire web hosting and domain registration services provider Arsys for €160m. Carlyle and Mercapital will invest equally to acquire a majority stake in the business, while the company founders Luis Ignacio Cacho and Nicolás Iglesias will retain a minority stake. Founded in 1996, Arsys has 550,000 registered domains, 170,000 clients and 250 employees, with commercial activity across Spain, France and Portugal, according to a statement.
Fernando Chueca, associate director, Carlyle, said, 'Having analysed a great number of opportunities in this exciting sector, both in Spain and across Europe, we are delighted to have been able invest in Arsys, which we believe has huge potential.'
David Estefanell, partner at Mercapital, added, 'With this investment, which is the first of our most recent fund raised in January 2007, Mercapital reinforces its co-operation with Spanish companies that are leaders in their sector. Both Carlyle and Mercapital will support the management team of Arsys to deliver its business plan.'
