The Blackstone Group has hired Gerry Murphy as a senior managing director, based in London. In his new role, Murphy will focus principally on supporting Blackstone's portfolio companies across Europe and Asia. Before joining Blackstone, Murphy spent five years as CEO of European home improvement retailer Kingfisher. He has also served as CEO of Carlton Communications, Exel and Greencore Group.
Previously, he held various senior positions with Grand Metropolitan (now Diageo) in Ireland, the UK and the US. He is currently a non-executive director at Reckitt Benckiser Group.
