European mid-market private equity firms Cognetas and Englefield Capital have jointly acquired UK utility company Morrison Utility Services, part of Anglian Water Group, for £135m, alongside company management. Morrison US operates as a service provider within the electricity, gas, telecommunication and water sectors. The company employs 3,300 people and its turnover for the year ending March 2008 will be about £500m, according to a statement.
Jonathan Mussellwhite, the Cognetas Partner who led the transaction, said, 'We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to partner with the management team of Morrison US to grow and develop the business going forward. As one of the UK's leading providers of infrastructure services, Morrison US has a long track record in a sector with exciting growth prospects.'
In January of last year, Englefield closed its second fund, Englefield Capital II, on €1.06bn.
