Baird Capital Partners, the US-based buy-out fund of Baird Private Equity, has appointed Michael Bernstein as an executive-in-residence focused on healthcare services investments. Based in the Milwaukee office, Bernstein will help the team source and evaluate new investment opportunities and also support existing portfolio companies.

Most recently, Bernstein was president and CEO of healthcare IT company Innovative Health Strategies, which was sold to IMS Health in December 2007. Prior to that, he was president and COO of health insurance holding company Cobalt Corporation. Before joining Cobalt Corporation, Bernstein served as executive vice president of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation and as senior vice president for University Health Care in Madison.

Dave Pelisek, partner, BCP, said, 'Mike brings over two decades of healthcare leadership and operating experience to our team. His knowledge of the healthcare services market and insurance industry will enable us to continue to be a leader in this field.'

Baird portfolio companies in the healthcare sector include medical revenue cycle management company MedData, surgical devices business Ellman International and outsourced pharmaceutical services provider Campbell Alliance Group.
