UK mid-market buy-out firm ECI Partners has agreed to acquire clinical trial business Premier Research Group for approximately £60m. The terms of the offer represent a premium of approximately 38 per cent to the closing price of 72.25 pence on 14 March 2008. The proposal is subject to the approval of PRG shareholders.
Headquartered in Berkshire, UK, PRG operates 17 facilities throughout Western, Central and Eastern Europe and 11 in the US.
Richard Chapman, ECI, said, 'We are delighted we have reached an agreement with the independent directors of Premier Research. The area of the CRO industry that Premier Research is in is set to continue growing significantly at an estimated 10 per cent per annum thanks to the non-cyclical nature of demand for health care in general and pharmaceuticals in particular. We believe that with our support Premier Research can grow faster than the market through organic growth and by making further acquisitions.'
In November of last year, ECI sold online parenting club Bounty for £70m.
