Atlantic Street Capital, a Stamford, Connecticut-based private equity firm with a focus on lower mid-market special situation and deep value investments, has held a first closing on its inaugural fund. The firm did not disclose how much capital it had received. The new fund has a target of $70m. Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners committed $35m to the fund.
Since its formation in late 2006, Atlantic Street has completed three acquisitions.
Peter Shabecoff, founding partner of Atlantic Street, said, 'Our goal is to identify special situation and other value-driven investments that pose challenges to typical private equity firms. We are pleased with the performance of our existing investments and we continue to identify growth strategies that will build those businesses into stronger competitors.'
The firm takes controlling equity positions in businesses with revenues between $30m and $120m, operating in the consumer products, services, manufacturing, distribution, retail, restaurant and healthcare sectors. Portfolio companies include frozen food business Double B Foods and Florida-based logistics firm ACE Expediters.
