The Blackstone Group has appointed Kemal Kaya as a senior advisor based in the firm's Turkey office. As part of Blackstone's global private equity team, Kaya will focus principally on developing business initiatives and advising the firm on potential transactions in the region. Prior to joining Blackstone, Kaya was the CEO of Turkish financial group Yapi Kredi Group. Under his leadership, Yapi Kredi Bank and Kocbank merged. Previously, he served as general manager of Kocbank and CEO of Koc Financial Services.
David Blitzer, senior managing director at Blackstone in London, said 'We are building on that with this appointment in what is an attractive and high growth market. Kemal is a highly experienced, well-connected professional who also brings a broad external perspective to the firm.'
Earlier this year, an investor group comprising Blackstone and Croatian retailer Agrokor bid for Turkish supermarket chain Migros Türk, according to Dow Jones LBO Wire. Migros was eventually acquired by BC Partners in a deal worth around YTL3.9bn ($3.25bn).
