Swiss healthcare-focused financial advisor Adamant Biomedical Investments has formed a new venture capital subsidiary in the UK, Adamant Ventures. Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Adamant Ventures will target private equity investments in healthcare companies based in the UK, Scandinavia, Central Europe and the US.

Adamant Ventures has been appointed by asset management company Scottish Widows Investment Partnership to continue the investment programme of its healthcare venture fund Healthcare Private Equity Limited Partnership, established in 2002.

Adamant Ventures anticipates adding to its assets under management within the next 12-24 months, according to sources.

To date, HPELP has made eleven investments in mid to late stage biopharmaceutical companies based in the UK, US and Europe. Recent investments include AstraZeneca spin-out Albireo, Cara Therapeutics and Radius Pharma.

Life sciences expert Bill Blair has joined Adamant Ventures from SWIP, where he has been managing HPELP since its inception.

Adamant Biomedical Investments, based in Basel, was founded in 2000. It manages and advises more than $1bn in healthcare assets across several funds.

SWIP is part of the Lloyds TSB Group and manages funds of £97.6bn.
