Belgian venture capital firm Capricorn Venture Partners has announced that it has raised €50m for its Capricorn Cleantech Fund, and aims to reach €75-100m by the end of this year. The fund held its first closing in November 2006.

Investors in the Capricorn Cleantech venture capital fund, Capricorn’s third, include Limburg's (Belgium) regional investment company LRM, Suez Group member Electrabel, Boerenbond group holding company M.R.B.B., Flemish government holding company PMV and several pension funds.

Capricorn's new fund has already invested in a number of early stage companies including SBAE Industries, a firm that is growing micro-algae for various applications, and fluXXion, a Dutch early stage company that produces and sells micro-filtration products for the dairy, beverage, ink and biotech industries.

Leuven, Belgium-based Capricorn Venture Partners is an independent manager of venture capital funds focused on innovative European companies with technology as competitive advantage.
