Silicon Valley venture capital firm Accel Partners has appointed former Sequoia Capital partner Sameer Gandhi as a partner in its Palo Alto office.

In his new role, Gandhi will focus on the consumer internet and the software sectors, according to the firm.

Theresia Gouw Ranzetta, partner, Accel, said, 'Sameer's investment experience will complement our partnership and extend our capabilities in both software and the consumer internet. We are excited to have Sameer as part of the Accel team.'

Gandhi joined Sequoia in 1998. As a partner at the firm he led investments including Barracuda Networks, eHarmony, Gracenote, Marketlive and Sourcefire. Prior to Sequoia, he was a technology banker at Broadview and a sales engineer at Oracle.

At the end of last year, Accel closed its Accel X fund on $520m.
