European LPs are interested in investing in private equity in China, according to a survey undertaken by Epiven, a European private equity advisory firm specialising in China. A total of 88 per cent of respondents said that they expected their allocations to China to increase over the next five years.

Currently, LPs have exposure to China primarily through European GPs with portfolio companies that are active in China, rather than through investments in local managers.

According to those surveyed, 90 per cent said that unclear regulation in the region is still a concern and 42 per cent worry about language and culture as barriers.

The survey included 59 European institutional investors in private equity with a combined €156bn of private equity assets under management.
