US venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners has appointed John Hsin and Kuantai Yeh as managing directors. They will join Chuan Thor in the firm's Shanghai office.
Highland has been investing in China since 2006. The firm's portfolio in the area includes interactive broadcasting service operator UUSee, internet and mobile search provider Qihoo and internet security provider NetentSec.
Hsin and Yeh join from Intel Capital China, where they specialised in the internet, media and technology sectors. While at Intel, they led investments in 51.com, Adsit Media, BCD, Chipsbrand, DAC, Incesoft, LuckyPai, Montage Technology, Palm Commerce, Winking Entertainment, Verisilicon and Yeepay.

'John and Kuantai are terrific additions to our China team as we continue to further grow our presence in the region. They will be instrumental in advancing our efforts to partner with exceptional Chinese entrepreneurs and management teams to build tomorrow's market-leading companies.'
Prior to Intel, Hsin was the Asia-based partner for Crystal Ventures. He previously served as an investment manager at Walden International, and before that was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in New York and Hong Kong.
Before joining Intel, Yeh was an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston, based in Hong Kong. Earlier in his career, he worked at Cypress Semiconductors in various engineering roles.
Highland invests in seed, early and growth stage companies in the communications, consumer, digital media, healthcare and IT sectors.
