India-based Motilal Oswal Venture Capital Advisors, the private equity branch of Motilal Oswal Financial Services, has appointed Rakesh Sony as a director of its private equity business.

With more than ten years of experience in investment banking and corporate finance, Sony brings an understanding of investment banking, legal and regulatory aspects, business development and corporate structuring issues.

Sony was previously co-founder and managing director of Microsec Group, an integrated financial services company. Prior to that, Sony was a consultant - corporate finance to Lodha Capital Markets, where he was responsible for issue management, corporate restructuring, cross-border M&A, loan syndication and other corporate advisory services.

In June, Motilal Oswal invested INR600m ($12m) in Indian dairy company Parag Milk Foods.

The firm closed its $125m fund for India, the India Business Excellence Fund, in December 2007. IBEF focuses on providing growth capital to SMEs, typically in the range of between $5m and $15m, across all sectors.
