The new capital will fund the Phase III clinical study of a treatment for patients with urea cycle disorders, as well as a Phase II study in low grade hepatic encephalopathy.
Daniel Perez of Bay City Capital, and Gaurav Aggarwal of Panorama Capital have joined Hyperion Therapeutics’ board of directors.
“Considerable unmet needs remain in the treatment of both urea cycle disorders and hepatic encephalopathy,” Perez said. “We believe the Hyperion management team, with their extensive drug development and regulatory expertise, is well positioned to lead a clinical development programme focused on potential treatment options for these patients.”
San Francisco-based Bay City Capital manages funds investing in the life sciences sector. The firm has managed six venture funds with $1.5bn invested in over 70 companies.
Panorama Capital is the successor to JPMorgan Partners’ venture capital programme, investing in the life sciences and technology industries. The firm is based in Menlo Park, California.
