REvolution provides software and support for the open-source "R" statistical computing language, producing solutions to enable statisticians, scientists and others to create predictive models and derive meaning from large sets of data.
The company also announced the appointment of Norman Nie, founder of first generation statistics software company SPSS, as CEO. SPSS was acquired by IBM in August 2009 for $1.2bn.
Lisa Lambert, managing director of Intel Capital, said, “Intel Capital's original 2007 investment in REvolution Computing was based on the realisation that R has the potential to become the future analytics engine for many of Intel’s key financial services, healthcare and energy customers.”
