The Carlyle Group intends to acquire Chimney Co, a Japanese restaurant chain operator listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, in a management buy-out.
As part of the deal, which is reported to be worth 21bn yen ($231.7m), Carlyle intends to purchase all of Chimney’s shares at 2,260 yen ($24.9) each.
Carlyle needs to obtain at least 75 per cent of Chimney's outstanding shares for the buy-out to succeed.
This is the second deal for Carlyle in Japan in as many weeks. The private equity firm has also agreed to buy out Japan’s Broadleaf, an IT solutions provider for the automotive industry. The deal has not been officially disclosed but is reported to be worth 19.5bn yen ($215.2m).
