Small London-based buy-out specialist Matrix Private Equity Partners has expanded its team with the appointment of Christopher Price, who joins the firm from Foresight Group as an investment manager.
Last month Price was awarded the title South East Venture Capitalist of the Year 2010 by Insider Media. Prior to working for venture firm Foresight Group, he worked for ICON Corporate Finance.
Mark Wignall, chief executive of Matrix, said, “Having completed three investments and two exits since the summer, we’re confident that there are good prospects for new investments in 2010. As an experienced deal-doer, Chris will hit the ground running and ensure that we are well resourced to capitalise on the opportunities that come forward.”
The hire comes on the back of two new Matrix deals: Iglu.com and Country Baskets.
Matrix invested £4.3m (€4.9m) in the management buy-out and recapitalisation of Iglu.com, a specialist ski and cruise holiday travel agent.
The firm invested £4m (€4.6m) to finance the MBO of Country Baskets, an importer and distributor of artificial flowers and floral sundries.
Matrix manages £115m in VCT Funds and focuses on MBO transactions.
