Pillari will work with CVC's US investment team to help develop investment opportunities in the energy sector and will help advise CVC's portfolio companies and management.

• Kuwaiti bank GIH hires Mohamed Abdelsalam to head Egyptian private equity division 06 May 2009. Global Investment House, a Kuwaiti investment bank, has hired Mohamed Abdelsalam to head its private equity funds business in Egypt. The appointment follows the private equity funds business growth strategy and the desire to gain a stronger foothold in the North African markets.

• Aldus Equity founder charged in NY pension fund scandal 01 May 2009. Saul Meyer, a founder member of Texas-based private equity firm Aldus Equity Partners, has been arrested and charged with securities fraud for his alleged role in a multi-million dollar kickback scheme involving New York's largest pension fund.

• Chinese sovereign wealth fund appoints new private equity head 29 Apr 2009. China Investment Corp, China's $200bn sovereign wealth fund, has appointed a head of its new private equity department, Reuters reports.

• Blackstone appoints former Citigroup executive for European advisory business 29 Apr 2009. The Blackstone Group has appointed Jean-Manuel Richier as senior managing director to its Paris office to work alongside Jean-Michel Steg in developing the firm's advisory business in France and in Europe.

• Managing director Kruemmer leaves 3i 29 Apr 2009. Stephan Kruemmer, group partner and managing director of 3i's German-speaking business, has decided to leave the firm for "personal reasons".

• August Equity founder emerges at secondaries firm Chamonix Private Equity 29 Apr 2009. Andrew Hartley, a founder and managing partner of private equity firm August Equity, has emerged at secondaries specialist Chamonix Private Equity. He joins partners Jane Crawford and Chris Edge.

• Blackstone appoints head for new private equity fundraising service 28 Apr 2009. The Blackstone Group has appointed Tom Kelly, formerly of KEMA Partners, to head its new private capital fundraising service for businesses. The service will include private placements of equity and debt for privately-held and publicly-traded corporate clients.

• Macquarie appoints James Hooke as CEO of infrastructure arm 27 Apr 2009. James Hooke has been appointed CEO of Macquarie Infrastructure Company. He succeeds Peter Stokes who, after five years as CEO of MIC and 12 years in the New York office of the Macquarie Group, has decided to return to Australia.

• Former Goldman Sachs executive joins Indian division of Greater Pacific Capital 24 Apr 2009. Goldman Sachs' head of Indian infrastructure investment, Akshaya Prasad, has left the firm and joined investment company Greater Pacific Capital as co-head of their Indian business.

• US Venture Partners appoints former CEO of Tessera Technologies as executive in residence 23 Apr 2009. Venture capital firm US Venture Partners has appointed Bruce McWilliams, former CEO of Tessera Technologies Inc., as an executive in residence.

• London-based NGBI Ventures welcomes new member to its investment team 22 Apr 2009. NGBI Ventures, a London-based venture capital firm focusing on the medical technology sector, has appointed John Milad to its investment team.

• Atlantic Street Capital appoints new partner 20 Apr 2009. Atlantic Street Capital, a Connecticut-based special situations private equity firm focusing on lower middle-market distressed and deep value investments, has appointed a new partner.

• Unitas Capital appoints managing director in Shanghai 15 Apr 2009. Unitas Capital, the Asian private equity firm previously known as CCMP Capital Asia, has appointed Xiaolu Lian as a managing director based in Shanghai.

• KKR recruits former SmartOps executive to improve portfolio company operations 14 Apr 2009. KKR, the global alternative asset manager, has appointed Arthur Brohinsky, former executive vice president of software and consulting services company SmartOps, as a director responsible for leading the firm's Lean Six Sigma efforts. Brohinsky will join KKR's portfolio operations team, KKR Capstone.

• Accel Partners recruits ex-Google executive 09 Apr 2009. Accel Partners, a global venture and growth capital firm, has hired ex-Google executive Sukhinder Singh Cassidy as CEO-in-residence. In her new role, Singh Cassidy will be evaluating new venture and growth equity opportunities, in addition to working with companies in Accel's digital media and advertising portfolio.

• Angelo Gordon hires ex-Goldman Sachs executive as co-head of private equity 07 Apr 2009. Angelo, Gordon & Co, the alternative investment specialist, has hired ex-Goldman Sachs executive Arthur Peponis as co-head of private equity and special situations.
