of Trade & Industry to undertake
a mapping study of venture capital
provision in England.
The report produced from
this study provides the most accurate
picture of the supply of VC in the
country. It is a useful source of
market information for LPs considering
investing in UK funds and for GPs
and private investors active in direct
deals.
This proprietary research has now
kindly been made available from the DTI as a free downloadable file.
The aim of the study was to map out
venture capital to small and medium-sized
enterprises in England to produce
an evidence base for policy-makers.
Almeida identified all the active
equity funds and formal angel networks
operating in this segment, while reporting
on the nature of the funds, the size
and source of their funds and the
scale of their investment activity.
The study also explores the way in
which publicly-backed funds are working
with their privately-backed counterparts
and others in the market to stimulate
sustainable sources of finance for
SMEs.
