  • Michael Levitt has departed from Hicks Muse Tate & Furst as the firm has undergone a shake-up to boost the Dallas and London offices. Recent losses from telecoms investments, Levitt's speciality, are thought to have contributed to his departure.

  • Leona Campbell joins Duke Street Capital Debt Management from the Bank of Scotland. Campbell joins as associate director and will work on the firm's first collateralised debt obligation fund.

  • Simon Inchley will head the new Gresham office in Manchester. He will be joined by Tim Smallbone and Andy Tupholme from KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers respectively.

  • Andy Lydon has joined the Birmingham office of Lloyds TSB Development Capital to strengthen its new business team. He joins from PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked in corporate finance.

  • Accel Partners has hired John Volk as chief financial officer. Volk, who previously headed the venture capital tax team at PricewaterhouseCoopers, will be based in Palo Alto and will take over from Carter Sednaoui who is due to retire.

  • Richard Gibson has been appointed as an investment executive at Northern Venture Managers. He will join the firm's Edinburgh office from Levy Gee's corporate finance division and will focus on developing investment opportunities for values below £5m.

  • Royal Bank Private Equity has hired Jim Kottler as investment manager. Kottler previously worked on management buy-outs, buy-ins and development capital investments at Bank Austria Private Equity. Kottlers appointment brings the RBPE team to 22 investment executives.

  • Jan Wiklund, ex-vice president of Ericsson, is to join Swedish venture capital firm ACR capital. Wiklund is one of many industrialists to have recently moved over to private equity.

  • Dang Phan has been appointed to George Soros' property and private equity investment arms. He will join as managing partner and chief operating officer.

  • Atlas Venture has named Jay Shiveley and Robert Badavas as new principals. Shivley will be based in Menlo Park and Badavas in Boston.

  • H&Q Asia Pacific has appointed Paul Adkins and David Kao as managing directors in the Japan and China offices respectively. Both men bring extensive past experience of the Asia-pacific region

  • Avy Stein replaces James Dunning as interim chairman and chief executive officer of Ziff Davis Media. Stein is a founding partner of Willis Stein & Partners - the private equity firm that owns Ziff Davis.

  • Rémi Buttiaux has joined Industri Kapital as part of the Swedish firm's expansion outside the Nordic countries. Buttiaux will look for new investment opportunities in France although he will be based at the London office.

  • Private Equity Holding elected Dr Marinus Keijzer as chairman of the board at its annual general meeting. Stuart Frankel, managing partner of Grotech Capital Group and Professor Georges Muller, professor of corporate law at the University of Lausanne have also been elected as board members.

  • Michael Collins has been hired to join Aberdeen Murray Johnston's Birmingham office. He joins from Murmar Phipps where he worked as finance director.

  • Mitt Romney, co-founder of Bain Capital announced that he will leave the firm after he finishes in his post as CEO of the Salt Lake Organising Committee of the Olympic Winter Games. Romney reportedly does not want to spend the rest of his life ‘earning more money'.

  • Rob Bonfield is to join Scotia Capital's leveraged finance business. Scotia wants to make a bigger impact in European LBOs and hired Bonfield from Société Générale to help achieve this aim.

  • Bruce Thomson joins ABN Amro Mezzanine from Bank of Scotland. Thomson has been appointed as a director and is the fourth member of the team.
  • MTI, the early-stage, high-tech venture capital investor, has hired Tom Jarman of Tellermate/Percell as an investment manager. He is the team's ninth professional .

  • Following a loss of Dkr112m, Birger Haugue Nielsen has resigned from his post as managing director of AS Brandts. Michael Albrechtslund is acting managing director at present.

  • Scott Collins, general partner of Summit Partners is to manage the firm's first overseas office in London. The London office will focus on European deals and on helping its US portfolios become established on the continent.

  • SuSe Linux has announced the resignation of its president and chief technology officer, Dirk Hohndel. Hohndel's stepping down follows the appointment of new CEO Johannes Nussbickel one month ago.

  • The Swiss Venture Capital Association has named Massimo Lattman as its new president. Lattman, a general partner of Venture Partners, replaces Berndt Samsinger who is set to join Capital Stage.
