Danial Faizullabhoy has joined Austin-based venture capital firm JatoTech Ventures as managing director. He has spent the past seven years at Walden International. Prior to joining Walden, he was vice president and general manager of the Target Semiconductor group of Adaptec. JatoTech Ventures focuses on early-stage semiconductor companies.
Global private equity and venture capital firm Summit Partners has appointed Christian Strain to its London office as vice president. Prior to joining the firm, Strain worked at Apax Partners in Paris, France, where he was a member of the Information Technology and Telecoms teams. Strain's appointment comes shortly after Summit Partners closed a new $3bn private equity fund and a new $300m venture capital fund. Summit Partners has offices in Boston, Palo Alto and London.
Colin Powell, the former US secretary of state, has been named strategic limited partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He served in the military for 35 years and rose to the rank of four-star general. Powell's last assignment, from October 1989 to September 1993, was as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest military position in the Department of Defense. Among many other operations he oversaw Operation Desert Storm in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.
US private equity giant The Carlyle Group has appointed three senior professionals to its US Venture and Growth Capital group: managing director Stephen W Bailey, principal Charles C Moore and vice president David Lam. They join a team of 22 investment professionals based in San Francisco and Washington, DC. Bailey joins Carlyle from Dell, where he served as vice president of Corporate Development and Dell Ventures. He was also a vice president of finance in the Americas Business Group at Dell. Prior to Dell Bailey worked as a principal with private equity firm ABS Capital Partners. Moore comes to Carlyle from private equity firm Perseus, where he served as managing director and focused on leveraged buy-out and growth capital investments in a variety of industries. Prior to that Moore practiced law at Williams & Connolly and served as a law clerk to US Supreme Justice Stephen G Breyer during the Court's 1997-98 term. Lam comes to Carlyle from Panasas, a network storage start-up, where he served as director of business development. In this position, Lam was responsible for marketing, finance and operations as the company developed and launched its first products. Prior to joining Panasas Lam served as a senior manager at CIENA Corp.
