Wright Steenrod, most recently a senior associate at Louisville, Kentucky-based Chrysalis Ventures, has been promoted to principal. Steenrod joined the firm in June 2001 with a focus on the media and communications sector. He has worked closely with Chrysalis portfolio companies including Ygnition, Genscape and Appriss, and currently serves on the boards of bCatalyst and Information Outfitters. Chrysalis has $200m under management.
Catherine Lawton, former vice president at New York-based buy-out firm CAI Managers & Co., has joined BancBoston Capital as vice president. Prior to CAI Lawton was an associate at venture capital firm GCC Investments and before that she worked at Merrill Lynch & Co.'s Investment Banking Group. BancBoston Capital focuses on sectors including media, retail, manufacturing and service-based companies.
Dr Steven Gillis, co-founder of Immunex and Corixa Corporations, has joined ARCH Venture Partners as a venture partner. Dr Gillis will focus on assisting in the development and growth of ARCH's biotechnology portfolio companies. He will also be active in the evaluation of new life science technologies, the firm said. ARCH focuses on creating early-stage technology companies in the life, physical and information sciences, which emanate from universities, national laboratories and corporate research labs. The firm has $1bn under management.
Rob Herb has joined BA Venture Partners as a managing director. Herb joins the firm's information technology team, which includes managing directors Jim Jones, Kate Mitchell, Rory O'Driscoll and Sharon Wienbar. He will focus on semiconductors and components, primarily for consumer electronics and enterprise systems. Herb has spent more than 20 years with AMD in a number of sales, marketing and general management positions.
GSC Partners, the transatlantic mezzanine and debt specialist, has appointed Drew Doscher and Jeffrey Horan as managing directors to lead the firm's newly created hedge fund. The new fund will focus on corporate debt and equity investments in leveraged and distressed markets. It will involve long and short as well as capital structure arbitrage strategies, and will leverage existing control distressed debt efforts, according to GSC Partners. Doscher and Horan join the firm from UBS where they were the co-heads of Global Distressed Securities Trading. The pair had worked together before they came to UBS; they contributed to the distressed trading desk at Lehman Brothers receiving a top ranking.
Peter Watt has joined UK lower mid-market buy-out firm ISIS Equity Partners from NBGI Private Equity. He becomes a member of the London new investments team. At NBGI Private Equity Watt completed a range of successful deals including European executive recruitment firm Walker Hamill, the portable accommodation business Wraith Accommodation and motorhome retailer Brownhills Motorhomes. ISIS recently also recruited Andrew Garside and Neil Bennett in London, Richard Bucknell in Birmingham and Andy Lees in Leeds. ISIS focuses on business and financial services, consumer markets, healthcare and education, media, and IT. The firm has funds under management of over £500m.
