David J Ament has been promoted to partner at Parthenon Capital in Boston. Ament joined Parthenon Capital in 2003 as a principal. He is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and executing new investment opportunities, as well as working with existing portfolio companies on various strategic and financial initiatives. His investment focus is primarily targeted towards Parthenon's activities in business services, including healthcare business services, media and telecom services, financial technology and education. Prior to joining the firm, he was a principal at Audax Group, a private equity firm focused on middle market companies. Parthenon Capital is a leading middle market private equity firm with offices in Boston and San Francisco and $1.1bn of capital currently under management.
RiverVest Venture Partners, a venture capital firm investing in emerging medical technology and biopharmaceutical companies, has appointed Dennis Wahr to the position of managing director. Wahr is a former practicing interventional cardiologist and founder of Velocimed, where he served as president and CEO until the recent acquisition of the company's business by St. Jude Medical.
CMEA, the US IT and life sciences venture firm, has named William Haseltine as a senior life sciences advisor. Haseltine is chairman and chief executive of Human Genome Sciences and has founded no less than seven biotechnology companies including Dendreon, Diversa, and Human Genome Sciences. Haseltine was also an advisor to Venture Capital Fund Healthcare Ventures, when he participated in the creation of 20 other biotech firms. CMEA invests in both early and late stage companies. It manages six funds and has $771m under management.
US media and communications buy-out specialist Providence Equity Partners has recruited Michael Powell as a senior advisor. Powell, the son of former US secretary of state Colin Powell, was until recently the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Providence is headquartered in Rhode Island but has become an increasingly important force in the communications sector in Europe. It was part of the consortium that recently bought Spanish telecoms firm Auna.
The Blackstone Group has appointed Chip Schorr as a senior managing director in the firm's Private Equity Group. Based in New York, he will oversee technology-related investments. Prior to joining Blackstone, Schorr was with Citigroup Venture Capital Equity Partners in New York for nine years. Blackstone has offices in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, London, Hamburg, Mumbai and Paris.
London-based private equity secondaries specialist Headway Capital Partners has appointed David Toon, a qualified chartered accountant, as chief financial officer. Prior to joining Headway Capital, Toon was the financial controller for Granville Baird Capital Partners and also group taxation manager for its parent Robert W Baird Group. Before that he was the tax manager for Credit Lyonnais Securities in London. Headway Capital was founded in 2004 by Christiaan de Lint, Sebastian Junoy, and Laura Shen, all formerly with Coller Capital. The firm provides liquidity solutions to institutions and individuals seeking exits or alternatives for their private equity investments. In June of this year Headway Capital announced the closing of its debut fund with commitments of €52m.
