Wicks Communications & Media Partners III has announced that Daniel L Black and Jamie M Weston have been named partners in the firm. Black joined The Wicks Group as a principal in July 2003 with a particular focus on the medical information, sports information, and cable television businesses. Prior to joining Wicks, Black was managing director and co-head of merchant banking at BNY Capital Markets as well as serving on the investment committee of BNY Partners Funds, an alternative asset investment partnership.

Weston joined The Wicks Group in 1995 as a vice president and has served as a principal in the firm since September 1998 with a particular focus on radio and television broadcasting, business information services, marketing services, and outdoor advertising, in addition to sourcing investments elsewhere in the information and media industries. Prior to joining Wicks, Weston worked at IBJ Schroder Bank & Trust Company in their corporate finance group.

Noble & Company has appointed Richard Winter as head of European mergers and acquisitions to support its expansion into the European market. Winter will be responsible for building Noble's European M&A team and strengthening the bank's European M&A capabilities. Winter joins Noble from Rödl & Partner Corporate Finance in Germany where he was the managing mirector and was responsible for German M&A, venture capital, private equity fund raising, IPO advice and due diligence.

John Llewellyn-Lloyd, chief executive and head of corporate finance, said, 'I am delighted to confirm that Richard Winter is joining Noble. Richard brings with him extensive knowledge of European corporate finance, with specific experience in business support services. His expertise will support Noble's expansion into Europe and will help us grow our international sale mandate business.'

Imperial Innovations, the technology commercialisation company of Imperial College London, has announced the appointment of Julian Smith as chief finance and operating executive. Smith joins Imperial Innovations from RadioScape, a technology company selling digital audio broadcasting products to broadcasters and radio manufacturers.

Imperial Innovations is looking to back opportunities in its spinout portfolio in the fields of fluid flow, wireless communications, molecular diagnostics and regenerative medicine.

Commenting on the appointment, Susan Searle, chief executive officer, said, 'We are delighted to have secured the services of Julian. His nine years of senior hands-on finance experience growing multinational and start-up companies in the IT sector will be extremely valuable in helping to further develop and build our business.'

Private equity firm Celtic Pharmaceutical Holdings has appointed Dr Patrick O'Connor as managing director and head of clinical development at Celtic Pharma Development Services, the development arm of Celtic Pharmaceutical Holdings. Dr O'Connor most recently served as senior vice president, clinical research and development at Ferring Pharmaceuticals, where he was responsible for global clinical development.

Sherbrooke Capital Health and Wellness, a venture capital fund with $101m of committed equity capital, has appointed Cory J Comstock as an operating partner. In his new role he will be responsible for finding and investigating potential new investments and working with existing portfolio company management teams. Comstock has held a variety of sales, marketing and operational positions with PowerBar, Odwalla and, most recently, Oregon Chai, where he served as CEO. Sherbrooke Capital invests in privately-held product, technology and service companies within the health and wellness industry.

Corsair Capital has announced that Richard E Thornburgh will join the firm as a partner in February of next year. Thornburgh is currently executive vice chairman at Credit Suisse First Boston. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the global banking and financial services sector, and has held a number of leadership positions at Credit Suisse Group.

Thornburgh is to be based in Corsair's New York office. His appointment is intended to enhance the firm's global investment origination and execution platform, as well as its ability to deliver management and operational guidance to portfolio companies in an array of financial services sub-sectors.

3i has appointed Shaun Kingsbury as an industrialist-in-residence to broaden its energy profile into the midstream gas, power and renewables markets. Kingsbury has worked in this sector for 15 years, both in the UK and in the US. He spent ten years working for Shell in its liquefied natural gas, pipeline and energy trading divisions, over two years working for Centrica in the US and, most recently, was commercial director for ITI Energy, which invests in energy-related technologies.

Dirk Donath has joined US firm Eton Park Capital Management as managing director. In his new role he will be responsible for the firm's private equity and illiquid investments in emerging markets. Donath co-founded Pegasus Capital five years ago. Prior to that he was a partner in the Mercosur office of McKinsey & Co in Buenos Aires. He is also the founder of retail pharmacy chain FarmaCity in Argentina. Eton Park is a global, multi-disciplinary investment fund that initiated activities in November 2004. With offices in New York and London, the firm was launched with an initial capital base of over $3.5bn.

Kleinwort Capital, the UK lower mid-market specialist, has appointed Aatif Hassan as associate. He joins the firm from Close Brothers Corporate Finance. Previously, Hassan held positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Freshgroup.com. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. Kleinwort Capital has announced that it is expecting to expand its team further over the next 12 months.
