Fondinvest has promoted Emmanuel Roubinowitz to managing director. Prior to joining Fondinvest as investment manager, Roubinowitz was a director at Nomura Private Equity. He worked for Morgan Stanley Capital Partners, where he was in charge of financing European buy-outs and began his career with Accenture. Roubinowitz also co-founded Phalsbourg, an investment firm focusing on turnarounds.
European mid-market private equity firm 21 Group has hired Cédric Abitbol to assist with the expansion to activities outside of Italy and France. Earlier in his career, Abitbol worked for Unigestion, a Geneva-based fund of funds. 21 Group in France has raised its third private equity fund this year, and the firm's Italy sector will be raising a new fund early next year.
Centerview Partners has appointed David M Hooper as a partner. Hooper will oversee the firm's private equity investment business. Prior to joining Centerview, he was a managing director at New York-based Vestar Capital Partners, where he headed the firm's Consumer Group and was chairman of its US investment committee. Centerview's private equity business will be managed by Hooper and James M Kilts.
Venture capital firm The Founders Fund has appointed Sean Parker as managing partner. Parker most recently was the founding president of Facebook. Prior to Facebook, Parker co-founded and served as president of address book site Plaxo. His first endeavour was Napster, a file sharing application, which he co-founded in 1999. The Founders Fund is an early stage venture capital firm. Each of the Fund's partners has founded a successful company.
Mid-market buy-out firm Gilde Buy Out Partners has appointed Rogier Engelsma, Nicolas Linkens and Alexander Friedrich. The firm closed its Buy Out Fund III in September 2006. Gilde has funds under management in excess of €1bn.
US mid-market private equity firm Bear Stearns Merchant Banking, the private equity affiliate of The Bear Stearns Companies, has appointed retail industry expert Richard L Markee as operating partner. Markee most recently served as vice chairman of Toys "R" Us, where he was responsible for the growth and expansion of Babies "R" Us. He was also chairman of Toys "R" Us, Japan. Prior to joining Toys "R" Us, Markee was vice president of merchandising at Target.
Waterland Private Equity Investments has appointed Jörg Dreisow as principal of their German branch. He will support the company's German expansion plans. Prior to joining Waterland, Dreisow was head of group development with TA Triumph-Adler and CFO for their presentation and media technology division.
