Foundation Capital, a venture capital firm committed to early stage company building, has promoted Rich Redelfs to general partner. Currently in his third year with Foundation, Redelfs joined as an executive-in-residence and was named a venture partner in June 2005. Before joining Foundation, Redelfs was president and CEO of Atheros Communications. Redelfs currently serves on the boards of Dust Networks, Mobius Microsystems, Prematics and Azimuth Systems.
Silicon Valley-based early stage venture capital firm Bay Partners has promoted Eric Chin and Neil Sadaranganey to the position of partner. Chin and Sadaranganey are responsible for Bay's investments in Wallop and Riya. Both joined the firm in 2005 and previously served as venture partner and entrepreneur-in-residence, respectively.
Early-stage venture capital firm Palomar Ventures has promoted Brian Garrett to partner and added Kevin Jacques as a partner at its Santa Monica headquarters. Garrett joined Palomar in 2001 as an associate and was promoted to principal in 2003. He focuses on digital media deals. Jacques joins Palomar from Sevin Rosen Funds and will focus on developing and evaluating new opportunities for Palomar in enterprise software and services, wireless, and information-based businesses.
US-based private equity firm First Reserve Corporation has appointed Neil J Hartley as director, Joshua R Weiner as assistant vice president and Matthew S Raben as assistant general counsel. Weiner and Raben will be based in First Reserve's headquarters in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Hartley will be with First Reserve International in London. First Reserve specialises in investments in the energy industry.
Pan-European buy-out firm Cinven has appointed Benoît Valentin as a partner. Following an initial period in Cinven's London office, Valentin is expected to join Cinven's Paris office in 2007. Prior to joining Cinven, Valentin was at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for 12 years, initially within the investment bank in London and Singapore, and later as managing director within the private equity department in London.
UK-based private equity buy-and-build specialist Sovereign Capital Partners is expanding its investment team with the recruitment of Mark Williams as investment manager, bringing Sovereign's investment team to 17. Williams joins Sovereign from BA Capital Partners Europe - Bank of America Bank, where he worked on UK and European private equity transactions for three years.
