Private equity and venture capital firm 3i has appointed Hannu Isohaaro as country manager of 3i Nordic Finland effective July 2006. Ere Kariola, 3i's former head of the Finnish business, has moved to a new role as senior advisor of 3i Nordic. Isohaaro will be responsible for the development of the Finnish operations and defining the Finnish investment strategy. Isohaaro will also join 3i's Nordic Management Team and continue as a partner in 3i's pan-European buy-out business.
Global private equity firm Warburg Pincus has named Charles Miller Smith as its senior advisor. Smith will be based in London and will participate in the firm's European investment activities. Previously Smith worked at Unilever where he held a range of financial and general management positions in the UK, the Netherlands and India.
Private equity focused investment bank Cogent Partners has added Bernhard Engelien as a director. He will be based in London and focus on advising limited partners in the UK and continental Europe. Bernhard comes to Cogent Partners from McKinsey & Company, the management consultancy, where he was an associate principal serving financial services companies and private equity firms on a range of strategy and corporate finance topics in the UK, continental Europe and the Middle East.
New York and San Francisco-based Behrman Capital has appointed Lawrence Deering as an operating partner of the firm. In his new role Deering will support the Behrman Capital team in overseeing its existing portfolio of healthcare companies and in identifying potential new investment opportunities in the healthcare services sector. Deering most recently served as chairman and chief executive officer of Tandem Health Care, a provider of post-acute healthcare services.
Massachusetts-based venture capital firm Castile Ventures has named Laura Ring to the new position of vice president of strategic relations. In her new role Ring will leverage the firm's interactions with the entrepreneurial, business and investment communities. She will also assist developing portfolio companies with their positioning and outreach.
San Diego-headquartered venture capital firm Enterprise Partners Venture Capital has appointed John Leenane as an entrepreneur-in-residence. Leenane will focus on digital content and wireless deals. Leenane joins Enterprise Partners from PayPal where he headed mobile merchant services. Enterprise Partners focuses on seed, early stage and promising later stage companies across a spectrum of digital, wireless and semiconductor technologies and the life sciences.
