Early stage high technology venture capital firm Benchmark Capital has appointed Elie Wurtman as a general partner in Israel. Wurtman spent the past three years as chief executive officer of Israeli-based venture capital firm JVP Studio, where he focused on early stage consumer and media investments. He led investments in several companies, including Double Fusion, Game Array and Funtactix. Prior to joining the venture capital community, Wurtman was the chief executive officer and co-founder of deltathree.com, a provider of VoIP products and services, which he led to an IPO on NASDAQ in 1999. Wurtman was also on the co-founding teams of Drive Diagnostics, TTR Technologies, Ambient and NomadIQ.
Georganne Perkins has become a managing director of Fisher Lynch Capital, a private equity firm investing in venture capital funds, buy-out funds and co-investments. Prior to joining Fisher Lynch, Perkins spent over 20 years at Stanford University, where she oversaw its portfolio of venture capital and buy-out investments. Fisher Lynch currently manages over $700m and has offices in San Mateo, California, and Boston, Massachusetts.
Apollo Management has announced the addition of Adam Aron as a senior operating partner. Aron served as the chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts from 1996 until 2006. He is currently vice chairman of the Travel Industry Association of America. In his new role, Aron will focus on the travel and leisure, lodging and entertainment-related sectors.
Mid-market private equity firm Baird Capital Partners Europe, formerly Granville Baird Capital Partners, has appointed Dennis Hall at director-level and Simon Coote as research analyst, bringing the firm's UK staff to 14. Hall joins from Harris Watson Holdings. In his new role he will focus on assisting investee company management teams to maximise the value of their businesses. Coote joins from Ernst & Young, where he held a research role and will be working alongside director Chris Harper on deal origination.
Westport, Connecticut-headquartered Pequot Capital Management has appointed G Larry Wilson as a venture partner of Pequot Ventures, the direct venture investment arm of Pequot Capital. Most recently, Wilson was a co-founder and managing general partner of The Trelys Funds, an early-stage venture capital firm in South Carolina. While at Trelys, he co-managed the firm's operations and was directly involved in the supervision of three portfolio companies. Wilson previously also served as chairman of the board, president, and chief executive officer of Mynd Corporation (formerly Policy Management Systems Corp or PMSC), a provider of application software, related automation support, and outsourcing services for the insurance and financial services industries. Mynd merged with Computer Sciences Corporation in December 2000.
