Wassim Sacre has joined New York-based private equity investment firm Invus as associate director. Prior to joining Invus, Wassim was at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for almost three years within the investment banking division in Paris. Previously he was a consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton. Invus has offices in Paris and London.
Bernie Siegel and Marty Newburger have joined KSL Capital Partners as principals. Siegel was previously chief investment officer of Destination Hotels & Resorts, the resort management arm of Lowe Enterprises. Newburger was previously a senior investment banker with both Citigroup and Deutsche Bank, where he focused on advising lodging, leisure and real estate investment banking clients. KSL specialises in travel and leisure enterprises in five primary sectors: hospitality, recreation, clubs, real estate and travel services. It has offices in Denver, Colorado and La Quinta, California.
Water Street Healthcare Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm focused exclusively on the healthcare industry, has appointed Steve Cosler as operating partner. Cosler was the president and chief executive officer at Priority Healthcare Corporation until it was acquired by Express Scripts in 2005.
IDG Ventures has appointed Sudhir Sethi as managing general partner of IDG Ventures India, which manages a recently established $150m venture capital fund.
Menlo Park, California-based venture capital firm Mayfield Fund has appointed Navin Chaddha as managing director. Chaddha is Mayfield's eighth investing managing director. Most recently, Chaddha was a partner at Gabriel Venture Partners, where he focused on software, applications and networking investments in the US and led investment activities in India. Prior to that, he served as entrepreneur-in-residence and venture partner at Mobius Venture Capital, leading their cross-border US-India investment efforts.
Jörg Riesmeier will be joining Life Sciences Partners' investment team as a general partner. Riesmeier will be responsible for the LSP BioVentures operation, working out of the LSP Boston office. LSP BioVentures focuses on AgBio, nutrition, biofuels, and health and wellness.
American Capital Strategies has appointed Greg Smitherman as managing director. Smitherman is based in the Technology Group's Palo Alto, California office. Prior to joining American Capital, Smitherman was a partner at Advent International. He previously was with Ameritech Development's venture capital and acquisition group. He has served on a number of boards of technology companies and on the investment committee of TMT Ventures, a venture fund focused on the communications, technology, e-commerce and media sectors.
TPG Newbridge, the Asian investment arm of Texas Pacific Group, has announced that Akio Ishida and Steven Schneider have joined the management team of their Japan operations. Ishida will be vice chairman of Japan operations. He has joined TPG Newbridge from Merrill Lynch Japan, where he was vice chairman of investment banking. Schneider, former CEO of GE-Asia Pacific and since 2005 head of Asian operations for TPG Newbridge, based in Hong Kong, will become chairman of Japan operations, while simultaneously serving as chairman of TPG Newbridge's entire Asian/Japan operations group.
UK mezzanine and private equity firm Mezzanine Management has appointed Bal Johaland Ian Wallis as directors, based in London. Johal and Wallis were formerly investment directors at 3i. Prior to joining 3i, Johal was a business analyst at HSBC. He started his career as a management consultant at Accenture. Wallis started his career as a commodity trader at Cargill.
