Genesys Capital Partners has appointed Jack Cashman as a venture partner in the firm. In his new role Cashman will provide strategic and operational support for companies within the Genesys portfolio and will also help identify new investment opportunities. He previously served as chairman and co-CEO of R.P. Scherer (now part of Cardinal Health), a developer and manufacturer of drug delivery systems, operating a global network of 20 facilities in 12 countries. Currently Cashman is non-executive chairman of two Genesys portfolio companies. Genesys is a provider of seed and early stage venture capital for Canadian life sciences companies.
European buy-out firm Candover has appointed Laura Marangione as an investment manager. Marangione joins Candover from BNP Paribas Corporate Finance in Milan.
David McVeigh has joined The Blackstone Group's private equity group as executive director. McVeigh was formerly a partner with McKinsey & Company, and a leader of the North American Chemicals and Northeast Energy and Materials practices.
UK-based mid-market private equity firm Gresham has appointed Simon Hemley as an investment executive, based in London. Prior to joining Gresham, Hemley worked for Ernst & Young in the mergers and acquisitions team where he predominantly advised on private equity transactions within the industrial products sector. Whilst at Ernst & Young Hemley also worked in the corporate restructuring, transaction support and project finance departments.
MB Venture Partners has appointed Michael Sherman as executive-in-residence at the VC firm. Sherman will focus on new medical device investment opportunities in the US. He joins the firm after a 15-year career at Memphis-based Medtronic Sofamor Danek, a subsidiary of Medtronic. Sherman joined Danek as the director of product development in early 1991, just before its initial public offering.
HealthpointCapital has appointed Elizabeth Varley Camp as a managing director. Her new role will include fundraising, deal sourcing and overseeing portfolio companies. Camp previously headed the Business Engagement Team at Ewing Management Group (formerly part of Carlyle). Prior to that, she worked at Goldman Sachs, where she was a managing director with senior portfolio manager responsibilities in the Private Equity Group; and prior to that, Camp was at Gibbons, Green, van Amerongen. She started her career at Morgan Stanley in the M&A and capital markets departments.
