Effective 1 January 2007, William E Ford, who was appointed president of General Atlantic in February 2005, will become the firm's chief executive officer with full leadership responsibilities, including capital raising, operations and staffing. Ford will remain chair of the firm's investment committee. Steven A Denning will continue to serve as chairman of GA, as a member of the executive committee, the investment committee and the portfolio committee, and as chairman of the firm's executive advisory board. In the coming years, Denning's focus will be increasingly devoted to portfolio company board directorships and capital partner relationships.

In addition, General Atlantic said that Rene Kern, a managing director based in Greenwich, will become chair of the firm's portfolio committee, and that Mark Dzialga, a managing director, also based in Greenwich, will become deputy chair of the firm's investment committee.

Dawnay, Day Principal Investments, the private equity arm of the Dawnay, Day Group, has appointed Antoine Raoux. Raoux joins from NBGI Private Equity, where he spent the past six years investing in a variety of UK buy-outs, including the Nationwide Autocentres buy and build. Prior to NBGI Private Equity, he worked for pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly in the UK

Greycroft Partners, a venture capital partnership founded by Alan Patricof to invest in digital media companies, has appointed Dana R Settle and Andrew B Lipsher as partners. Both will have direct responsibility for identifying new investment opportunities and managing the fund's portfolio.

Athlone Global Security, a private equity group that invests in Israeli homeland security companies and helps them establish new markets for their products in the US and Europe, has announced that two experienced venture capitalists and private equity investors, University of Maryland professor Charles O Heller and Israeli venture capitalist Yaron Rosenboim, have agreed to join its board of directors and investment committee. As members of the investment committee, along with president and CEO Gordon Hawke of AGS, Heller and Rosenboim will be responsible for selecting new investments. As members of the company's board, they will help manage AGS and its investment companies.

Draper Fisher Jurvetson, a high technology venture capital firm, has appointed Don Wood as managing director. Wood spent the past eight years at Vanguard Ventures where he led investments such as ZipRealty, Vocera, and Sylantro. Prior to Vanguard, he was president of Metricom where he led the creation of the metro wireless internet service called Ricochet.

John Cavoores has joined the The Blackstone Group's private equity group as a senior advisor. Cavoores has over 27 years of experience in the insurance industry. Most recently he was the chief executive officer of OneBeacon Insurance Group, a subsidiary of White Mountains, where he led a turnaround providing extensive shareholder appreciation. Prior to that Cavoores was president and chief operating officer of National Union Insurance Company.

Vestar Capital Partners has appointed Roger C Holstein as a senior advisor to the firm. Holstein was formerly chief executive officer and a director of WebMD Corporation.

New York-based venture capital firm Easton Capital Investment Group has announced that Dr Hans Mueller has joined its scientific advisory board. Dr Mueller has more than 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Until 2004, Dr Mueller was the senior vice president of Global Business Development at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Currently, Dr Mueller provides consulting services for HM Consulting and three additional VC-funded healthcare companies.

European buy-out firm Candover has appointed Clive Dolman and Alexis Dormandy as operations partners. Candover only recently established the role of operations partner at the firm. It will involve focusing on value creation in portfolio companies.

MVM Life Science Partners has announced that Dr Søren Mouritsen has been appointed as entrepreneur in residence to the firm. MVM will work alongside Dr Mouritsen from the initial identification of assets through due diligence, to the foundation of a company to develop the assets. In addition, MVM will provide access to proprietary deal flow and start-up concepts, due diligence resources and logistical support throughout.

Milestone Growth Fund has appointed Richard Venegar, currently still senior vice president of Pacesetter Capital Group. Venegar succeeds Milestone founder Esperanza Guerrero-Anderson as president and CEO. Milestone Growth Fund focuses on providing equity-type financing to minority-owned companies.

Waterland Private Equity Investments, an independent private equity firm operating in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, has strengthened its senior investment team in Germany. The firm has appointed Jörg Dreisow as investment director and David Zimmer as senior investment manager.
