UK private equity buy-and-build specialist Sovereign Capital has further expanded its team with an additional investment executive, Alex Dampier. Dampier joins Sovereign Capital from Grant Thornton, where he focused on private equity transactions within their corporate finance division. Prior to that, he worked at Tenon in Manchester and Hall Chadwick in Australia.
Crosslink Capital has announced the addition of a fifth general partner, Peter Rip to their venture capital firm. Previously, Rip was a managing director at Leapfrog Ventures and Knight Ridder Ventures. Prior to that he co-founded Silicon Compiler Systems and was vice president and general manager of the Infoseek Advertising Network. Crosslink Capital is a technology venture capital and growth equity firm with £1bn in capital under management.
A board of advisors has been announced for Kodiak Venture Partners, including its two inaugural members: Atiq Raza, founder, chairman, and CEO of Raza Microelectronics (RMI), and Mike Volpi, senior vice president for Cisco's Systems' Service Provider Group and Routing Technology Group, were chosen to provide guidance, expertise, and insight to the firm and its portfolio companies. Raza has co-invested and advised with members of the Kodiak team on investments and most recently founded RMI and Raza Foundries. He is also the former CEO of NexGen, and was president and COO of AMD. Volpi is responsible for the routing and access products of Cisco, one of Kodiaks earliest financial supporters, and was an advisor in the formation of Kodiak. Kodiak is a venture capital firm focused on seed and early stage investments in technology companies.
VC firm Global Life Science Ventures has promoted Dr Stephen J McCormack and Dr Holger Reithinger to partner, bringing the firm's total number of partners to five. Before the promotion, both had worked for GLSV assessing new investment opportunities and monitoring portfolio companies. McCormack was recently promoted to chairman of the supervisory board of Intelligent Medical Implants AG. Prior to GLSV, he co-founded NeuroSystec and AlleCure. Dr Reithinger previously as a Director with 3i. He has also been a development manager at Biometra/Whatman and an investment manager at GmbH.
Lightspeed Venture Partners has added three new senior associates, Patrick Chiang, Andrew Chung, and John Vrionis, to strengthen the firm's activities in the United States. Chiang joins Lightspeed from Aliph, a venture-backed mobile communications technology company, where he was CFO and director of strategy. Prior to Lightspeed, Chung was with Bain Capital and TL Ventures. He also co-founded UberWorks, led product management at OnStation, and was a management consultant with Bain & Company in Greater China. Vrionis previously worked in project management at Determina, a software security start-up. Prior to that, Vrionis was with Freedom Financial as a director of strategic initiatives and at ABN AMRO Ventures was an associate. Lightspeed Ventures Partners focuses on early stage investments and manages $1.3bn of committed capital.
Charles A Banks, the former CEO of Wolseley, has joined Clayton, Dubilier & Rice as a partner in the firm's New York office. Banks was with Wolseley, a trade distributor of plumbing and heating products and a supplier of building materials, from 2001 to July 2006. Before Wolseley, Banks had been at Ferguson Enterprises. Since 1978, CD&R has invested $8bn in 38 US and European businesses. The firm has offices in London and New York.
Olivier Sichel has joined European venture capital firm Sofinnova Partners as partner. He was previously chairman and CEO Wanadoo (France Telecom group), a publicly traded European internet and directories company. Prior to Wanadoo, he was chairman and CEO of Alapage.com. Sofinnova Partners, the sister company of Sofinnova Ventures, has €900m under management. The company invests in start-ups and early stage companies in the information technology and life sciences sectors.
HitecVision Private Equity, announced the appointment of a new partner, Mike Hill, formerly a director at 3i's oil and gas team. He will be recruiting two more investment professionals to join him in HitecVision's new office in Aberdeen, UK.
US life sciences venture capital firm Clarus Ventures has appointed Dr Jeffrey Leiden as partner, based in the firm's Cambridge, Massachusetts office. Dr Leiden is the former president and COO of Abott's Pharmaceuticals business, where he was hired as chief scientific officer and shortly after promoted to president of the company's global pharmaceuticals business. Clarus has also announced that Christina Csimma has joined the firm as a principal in the Cambridge office. Clarus manages $500m through its inaugural fund, Clarus Lifesciences I.
William J Wildern has joined Cleveland-based private equity firm Resilience Capital Partners as managing director and head of its new Detroit, Michigan office. Wildern was most recently managing director at BBK, a consulting firm based in Michigan. He has over 18 years of operating and restructuring experience in the automotive and industrial sectors. Before BBK, Wildern worked for General Motors Corporation. Resilience focuses on investing in underperforming and turnaround situations. The firm manages two private equity funds with capital under management of over $75m.
