European venture capital firm GIMV promoted Bart Diels and Alain Keppens as investment directors. Diels previously was an internal auditor at Delta Lloyd Bank before joining GIMV as an executive investment director. His primary responsibilities are investments and divestments in software companies. Keppens was also formerly an investment director, joining the firm in 1991. Prior to that, he was an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Keppens monitors management buy-outs and investments in growth companies.
AP Alternative Assets, a private equity, debt, and capital markets investor established by Apollo, has promoted Barry Giarraputo as its chief financial officer. Giarraputo joined Apollo in October 2006 after spending nine years with Bear, Stearns & Co., most recently as senior managing director. Prior to that, he was with PriceWaterhouse's accounting and auditing firm.
Celtic Pharma Development Services Bermuda, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Celtic Pharma charged with the development of Celtic Pharma's portfolio of pharmaceutical programs, appointed Bob Milsted as managing director and head of European development and Solomon Babani as director of contracts and vendor management. Milsted most recently worked for AstraZeneca as vice president of global regulatory affairs for oncology and infection. Babani joins Celtic Pharma from Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where he was associate director in the CRO Management group Prior to that, he served as Manager of Contracts and Outsourcing at Pfizer.
William Stensrud, a managing director and general partner of San Diego's Enterprise Partners plans to retire from active venture capital investing. Stensrud joined Enterprise Partners in 1997 focusing on networking, telecommunications. For the past 18 months, Stensrud has been acting as CEO of Muze, a digital media company and an Enterprise Partners' portfolio company.
Paul Bagatelas has joined the Carlyle Group's new office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as managing director for investor relations and senior executive officer. Bagatelas will work with Carlyle's current and prospective investors throughout the MENA region. He joined Carlyle from Credit Suisse, where he was a director and team leader for special coverage in the Middle East. Previously, Bagatelas was a director with Citigroup Private Bank in Dubai, Greece and Switzerland. He began his career with the United States Department of State, with assignments in Washington, DC, and at the United States Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium.
US buy-out giant KKR has appointed Sir John Bond as a senior advisor to the firm. Bond joins KKR after 45 years at HSBC, most recently as group chairman of HSBC Holdings. Sir John is currently chairman of Vodafone Group, chairman of the Mayor of Shanghai's International Business Leaders Advisory Council and a member of the China Development Forum, which meets annually in Beijing and provides advice to the Chinese government. He has been a member of the Hong Kong Chief Executive's Council of International Advisers since 2002. He is also a member of the International Advisory Council to the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing. Recently Sir John joined the board of Shui On Land, a major investor in property in the People's Republic of China.
US venture capital firm Sevin Rosen Funds has appointed Jerry Bowerman, former vice president and COO of Electronic Arts Canada, as their new entrepreneur in residence. Bowerman will pursue new business opportunities in the areas of user-generated content and consumer gaming from the firm's Austin office. Earlier on in his career, Bowerman served as EA Canada's vice president of development in EA's Driving Business Unit. Prior to EA, he co-founded Sentire. Before that, Bowerman co-founded WorldStream Communications, where he was responsible for designing and building a nationwide network for streaming multimedia presentations over the internet. He has also held various executive titles at Sierra Online.
UK government-backed emerging markets fund of funds manager CDC Group has appointed Mark Kenderdine-Davies as general counsel and chief compliance officer. Kenderdine-Davies will be responsible for legal and compliance aspects of the company's international activities and will advice the CDC board and investment committee on legal and governance matters. His new role will include advising CDC on fund and investment structuring, negotiation and implementation and legal due diligence. He joins CDC from Gartmore Investment Management, where he worked as legal counsel. He has also been legal counsel at Threadneedle Asset Management, an executive director of Sandry Investments, and general counsel and senior investment executive at Indochina Asset Management.
Energy industry-focused private equity firm Lime Rock Partners has hired Saad Bargach as a managing director, based in Houston. Bargach spent the past 23 years at Schlumberger, serving most recently as chief information officer.
