Venture capital firm Northzone Ventures has hired Hans Otterling to join their Stockholm office as a general partner. Otterling previously co-founded StreamServe and was the active deputy chairman. He is the chairman of the Board of Anoto and a member of the Board of Pointsec. Prior to StreamServe, he founded Waymaker, a business intelligence company. Otterling is now the ninth general partner with Northzone Ventures.
Stephen Girsky has joined New York private equity firm Centerbridge Partners as a managing director of Centerbridge Industrial Partners to focus on investments in the automotives and related Sectors. Prior to Centerbridge, Girsky was a special advisor to the CEO and CFO of General Motors. Before that, he was a managing director at Morgan Stanley and senior analyst for Morgan Stanley Automotive and Auto Parts Research Team.
Merchant Private Equity, a retail and consumer industry turnaround investor has appointed Joshua Spoerri to the firm's London office. Spoerri previously helped establish Bank of America's European private equity business and participated in the launch of a 1.2bn pan-European private equity portfolio as a partner in BA Capital Partners Europe. His addition is the second recent hire following the recruitment of Sophie Field earlier this year. Field joins MEP from Morgan Stanley's Retail and Luxury Goods team in London.
US private equity giant The Carlyle Group has appointed managing director Walid Musallam to regulate its newly established private equity investments team in the MENA region. Prior to Carlyle, Musallam was the former chief executive officer of the Abu Dhabi Investment Company. Carlyle's MENA team will invest from offices in Cairo, Dubai and Istanbul.
3i has appointed Rupert Bell as a director within its Growth Capital team. Bell was previously with Sand Aire Private Equity, where he was a director helping complete the transition from a new investment firm to an established mid-market business ahead of its sale to Dunedin in 2005. Prior to Sand Aire, Bell was a manager in the corporate finance team at P&O and a chartered accountant at Arthur Andersen.
Core Capital has appointed Mark Storey and Ian Henderson-Londoņo. Both have joined the firm from Alcuin Capital. Prior to Alcuin, Storey and Henderson-Londoņo worked together at BancBoston Capital.
