Advisory and investment firm Evercore Partners has added Anthony Fry to its advisory business as a senior managing director, based in the company's London office. Fry joins from investment bank Lehman Brothers, where he was head of UK investment banking, chairman of the media group and subsequently senior advisor. Fry is the third senior managing director to join Evercore's European business this year, following the appointments of Ian Ferguson from financial management and advisory company Merrill Lynch and Edward Banks from investment bank JPMorgan Cazenove in September.

Private equity firm Avista Capital Partners has hired Trevor Turbidy as an energy industry advisor. Prior to joining Avista, Turbidy was the CEO of Trico Marine Services, an international provider of marine support vessel services to the offshore oil and gas industry. He led the successful turnaround of this company from a financially distressed Gulf-oriented operator to a well-capitalised, internationally-focused organisation. Turbidy was recruited as CFO by Trico in 2003, functioned as the chief restructuring officer during the company's restructuring and subsequently was promoted to CEO after its successful completion. Prior to his service at Trico, Turbidy spent over a decade with investment banks Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette and Credit Suisse First Boston, rising to the level of director and focusing on the oilfield service industry and regional opportunities in the Southwest US.

Silicon Valley venture capital firm Accel Partners has appointed Dick Williams as CEO-in-residence. Williams will work with the Accel team to identify and analyse new ventures that have the potential to define important market categories. He will also directly advise and assist Accel portfolio companies. Williams previously worked with Accel as CEO or chairman of three portfolio companies. He was also CEO of Illustra Information Technologies. Williams was co-founder and chairman of Quokka Sports, an online immersive media company, which completed its IPO in 1999. Most recently, he was CEO of web application management systems maker Wily Technology, which was acquired by IT firm Computer Associates in 2006.

Private equity energy technology fund NGP Energy Technology Partners, has promoted Jason E Hicks to principal. Hicks joined NGP ETP in early 2006 as a vice president. His responsibilities include sourcing, structuring and monitoring fund investments. Hicks is currently an observer to the board of transport and energy generation composites maker TPI Composites. Prior to joining NGP ETP, he spent nine years at financial services firm Citigroup where he focused on M&A and leveraged finance.

Middle East, North Africa and South Asia-focused private equity firm Abraaj Capital, has appointed Sari Maher Anabtawi as an executive director, primarily responsible for coverage and fundraising. Anabtawi, who has held senior positions at investment banks Drexel Burnham Lambert, Smith Barney and financial services firm Morgan Stanley, brings 20 years of experience in the global banking industry. In addition, he has ten years of experience in private equity. Anabtawi began his professional career in the US, where he served at IT giant IBM and consultancy firm Anderson Consulting. Immediately prior to joining Abraaj, he served as head of regional origination and was director, corporate and investment banking, MENA, at financial services firm Standard Bank in Dubai.

UK mid-market buy-out firm ECI Partners has appointed Jeremy Lytle as investor relations manager. Lytle will act as a main point of contact for investors and lead future fundraisings with the firm's investment committee. Lytle joins ECI from FM Capital Management, where he was COO and head of investor relations. He began his career at investment bank Cazenove in 1998. As a fund director within the institutional team he had responsibility for 25 pension and charity multi-asset and specialist portfolios, and for tactical asset allocation to private equity and other alternative assets.

US venture capital firm CMEA Ventures has appointed former Booz Allen Hamilton senior vice president Bruce Pasternack as a venture partner. Pasternack will join the firm's energy and materials investment practice. For nearly 30 years, he was a senior vice president at consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. He served as managing partner of both the firm's energy, chemicals and pharmaceuticals worldwide business and its organisation and strategic leadership practice. He has also been a managing partner for the firm's Northern California offices and was on Booz Allen's board of directors. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of the Special Olympics.

Marc van Gelder and Marcel van Poecke have joined the 3i Benelux advisory board. This follows Laurens Jan Brinkhorst, the former minister of economic affairs in the Netherlands, joining the board in February. Van Gelder and van Poecke will provide 3i's portfolio companies with strategic insights, support the due diligence process and assist 3i in identifying market opportunities. Van Gelder is currently CEO of listed pharmaceutical group OPG Group, a position he has held since December 2005. Prior to this, he worked at Ahold, McKinsey & Company and MIP Venture Capital Fund in the Netherlands. Van Poecke was co-CEO of Petroplus, a European midstream oil company with core activities in oil and refining and LNG storage.

Venture capital firm VantagePoint Venture Partners has made a series of new senior appointments. Tom Bevilacqua and Bill Harding have been hired as the new managing directors and co-heads of its information technology practice group. Craig Cooper has also been appointed to the information technology practice group as a venture partner and Dave Thompson has been made a venture partner in the healthcare practice group. Bevilacqua served as a managing partner at early stage venture capital fund ArrowPath Venture Partners, a firm he co-founded seven years ago. Harding joined VantagePoint from Morgan Stanley Venture Partners where he was a managing member. Cooper was formerly a partner at Softbank Capital where he led the west coast digital media and wireless investment group. Thompson has had a 30-year career with Eli Lilly and its affiliates. He most recently led the corporate strategy, business development‚ corporate ventures, finance and investment banking and alliance management organisations within the company.

Venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners has promoted Peter Bell and Richard de Silva to the position of general partner. Bell joined Highland in 2006 as a venture partner and specialises in technology investment across all stages of company growth. Before joining the company he was the managing director and founder of capital and management expertise provider Stowe Capital. Prior to establishing Stowe Capital in 2002, Bell co-founded information storage software firm StorageNetworks. De Silva works in Highland's Menlo Park office as a specialist in digital media investments. Before joining Highland in 2003, de Silva co-founded and was president of channel marketing software firm SiteBurst. Prior to establishing SiteBurst, de Silva helped found heavy equipment marketplace website IronPlanet.com.

US early stage venture capital firm Charles River Ventures has appointed Jon Auerbach, formerly general partner at venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners, as a general partner, based in the firm's East Coast office. Auerbach will focus on making investments in wireless technologies and services. Auerbach led Highland's investments in tower leasing firms Optasite and TriStar Investors and co-led the firm's investments in mobile web firm Quattro Wireless and mobile infrastructure equipment maker Starent Networks. Prior to joining Highland in 2000, Auerbach spent over a decade as a technology reporter, editor and foreign correspondent. He reported on wireless technology for The Wall Street Journal.
