US-based investment bank Moelis & Company Holdings has appointed Stephan Oppenheimer as a partner in the private equity business of Moelis Capital Partners, based in New York. Oppenheimer joins from CCMP Capital Advisors, where he most recently focused on transactions in the media and telecom, services and industrial sectors. Prior to CCMP Capital, Oppenheimer worked as an investment banker in the Acquisition Finance group of Chase Securities. Before joining Chase Securities, he worked as a systems consultant with American Management Systems and System Planning Corporation.

Mid-market private equity investor Inflexion Private Equity has recruited Malcolm Coffin as an investment executive and Gareth Healy as an investment director. Coffin joins Inflexion from NM Rothschild & Sons where he worked in the consumer products M&A team as assistant manager. Prior to this, Coffin trained as a chartered accountant at Deloitte & Touche. Healy joins Inflexion from Close Brothers where he was a managing director focused on advising the private equity community. Prior to his three years with Close Brothers, Healy spent seven years at UBS, acting as a director in the European Technology Team and the UK Mid-Market Team. He originally trained as an accountant with PwC.

Mid-market private equity firm Greenhill Capital Partners Europe has taken on Adam Maidment and Cameron Crockett as principals. Maidment and Crockett have both joined from private equity firm PPM Capital, where they worked together since 2002. GCP Europe makes private equity and equity-related investments in mid-market companies located primarily in the UK and Europe. It generally makes controlling or influential minority investments in companies with enterprise values of £25m to £250m.

Energy technology private equity fund NGP Energy Technology Partners has appointed Brad L Barton as a principal. Prior to joining NGP, Barton served as the director of commercialisation and deployment for the US Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. In this role he was responsible for accelerating the deployment of emerging energy technologies into the marketplace. Barton was also responsible for developing ideas to implement the department's new authority to establish an Advanced Research Program Agency for Energy programme and advised on tax policy pertaining to renewable energy. Prior to joining the Department of Energy, Barton spent seven years at Hillwood Development, where he managed investments in natural gas, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and enterprise software.

New York-based private equity firm Wellspring Capital Management has promoted Alexander E Carles and Joshua C Cascade to partner. Both were previously principals at the firm. Carles has been with Wellspring for seven years. Prior to joining the firm in 2001, he spent several years at Whitney & Co., where he was a senior associate in the firm's mid-market buy-out group. Cascade joined Wellspring in 2002 from Odyssey Investments, where he spent four years working on a number of leveraged acquisitions and recapitalisations of mid-market companies. Prior to joining Odyssey, Cascade was an associate with The Blackstone Group in the restructuring group, advising clients on corporate turnarounds, debt restructurings and Chapter 11 reorganisations.

US venture capital firm SV Life Sciences has appointed Dr Hamish Cameron as a venture partner in its London office. He will focus on therapeutic investments in Europe and the US. Before joining SVLS, Dr Cameron was appointed CEO of Cambridge Antibody Technology, following its acquisition by Astra Zeneca in 2006. Prior to that, he held a series of senior positions at Astra Zeneca including head of the cardiovascular therapy area, global head of medical research and member of the R&D Leadership Team. Dr Cameron started his industry career with Janssen, after working as a physician in the UK.

Darby Overseas Investments, the private equity arm of Franklin Templeton Investments, has appointed Latin America expert Diane Smith to oversee its mezzanine finance activities in the region. Smith has experience in launching and managing new private equity and mezzanine businesses in both the US and Latin America. She ran her own firm and advised early stage entrepreneurs seeking private growth capital. Prior to that, Smith was a managing director at Electra Investment Trust, an LSE-listed private equity firm. She led Electra's expansion into Latin America in the late 1990s, forming fund management companies jointly with financial institutions in Argentina and Brazil. While at Electra she also played a key role in building the firm's new US principal investing business to over $500m in equity and mezzanine investments, according to a statement.

General Atlantic has appointed John D Bernstein as a managing director in its London office. Bernstein led or co-led investments in 14 companies, including MACH, Aircom International, CAMS, Bookham Technology, Cordena Call Management, Cybercity, EUnet International, Jazztel and Tertio. Most recently, Bernstein led the European telecoms and technology investment practice at Advent International, where he was a partner. Prior to joining Advent in 1995, he was a partner for five years at management and strategy consulting firm InterMatrix. From 1984 to 1989, he specialised in capital markets and M&A in the London and Tokyo offices of Hambros Bank.

US venture capital firm ONSET Ventures has appointed John Ryan as a partner to work in its medical technology investing team. Ryan joins ONSET from Panorama Capital, a venture capital firm created by the venture capital team from JPMorgan Partners. At Panorama and JPMorgan Partners, Ryan led the firm's venture investing efforts in the medical device sector and was one of the founders of the firm's West Coast life sciences practice. During that time, he served on the boards of directors of companies including CardioKinetix, FlowCardia, Innovative Spinal Technologies, Novasys Medical and Powervision.

New York and London-based mid-market private equity firm MidOcean Partners has appointed Mark A Angelson as its new chairman. Angelson joins MidOcean from printing company RR Donnelley, where he was CEO. During his time at Donnelly, Angelson was responsible for a series of takeovers and mergers that significantly expanded the company. Before serving as CEO of RR Donnelley, Angelson served as CEO of printing company Moore Wallace. He was one of the main architects of the merger of RR Donnelley and Moore Wallace and the earlier merger of Wallace and Moore, where he served as non-executive chairman, according to a statement. Angelson began his career as an international lawyer.

Dutch venture firm Icos Capital has hired Dinant Veehof as a general partner. Veehof started his career as venture capitalist in the IT industry for Alpinvest in 1998, where he invested in start-ups in Europe and Israel. Veehof later joined FilePool's management team as CFO in 2000. He co-led the repositioning of the company that translated into its acquisition by EMC Corporation in a €60m deal. After FilePool, Veehof co-founded speech recognition company Voice Data Bridge and independent directory assistance provider 1850.
