Early stage technology venture capital firm Benchmark Capital, has appointed four technology executives to the firm. Rob Bearden, Lewis Cirne and Dan Finnigan have been appointed entrepreneurs in residence, while Keith Krach will serve as CEO in residence. Bearden will evaluate new open source business opportunities, Cirne will concentrate on open source and web infrastructure companies and Finnigan will focus on advertiser-supported consumer internet services. Krach will work closely with individual entrepreneurs to help them develop the leadership skills, according to a statement. Most recently Bearden served as COO for OpenSpan. Cirne founded Wily Technology in 1998, serving as president and CEO until 2001. Finnigan previously served as senior vice president at Yahoo! Prior to that, he led the creation, and served as president and CEO of Knight Ridder Digital. Krach is currently CEO of investment holding company 3Points.
Alternative asset manager Hall Capital Partners has appointed John F Boneparth as president. Boneparth will join CEO and CIO Kathryn A Hall and director of investment advisory services John W Buoymaster as a member of the firm's executive committee. He will also serve on Hall Capital's board of directors along with Hall; Buoymaster; Warren Hellman, co-founder and chairman of Hellman & Friedman; Mark E. McKee, president of Capital Alternatives; and Matthew R Barger, senior advisor for Hellman & Friedman. Boneparth founded Corinthian Cove Consulting in 2005. Previously he spent 14 years at Putnam Investments. Hall Capital has $9bn in alternative assets under management including hedge funds, private equity and real estate.
The Carlyle Group has promoted 30 professionals to senior positions, eight to managing director and 22 to principal/director. The new managing directors are Janet Andre, Patricia Gallagher, Hayden Jones, Robert Konigsberg, Gary Bleiberg, Jonathan Bylin, Vladimir Lasocki and Jim McGee. The new principals/ directors are Zeina Bain, Nicolas Debetencourt, Nilesh Desai, Pierre-Olivier Desplanches, Cam Dyer, Rodrigo Fonseca, Mark Harris, Chris Hodges, Brannan Johnston, Rachel Lupiani, Edward Man, Thomas Mayrhofer, Nazo Moosa, Nancy Palleschi, Adrian Siew, Charles Steel, Miguel Valenzuela, Elliot Wagner, Carolyn Weimer, Jonathan Zafrani, Elena Zhang and Eric Zhang.
H.I.G. Europe, the European affiliate of private equity firm H.I.G. Capital, has appointed Olivier Boyadjian as managing director for its Paris office. Prior to joining H.I.G., Boyadjian was the head of the investment team at CDC Capital Investissement. In 2007, H.I.G. Europe closed a dedicated European fund on €600m. H.I.G.'s investment team in France currently consists of eight professionals. It most recently completed the acquisition of cosmetic display manufacturer Diam.
Providence Equity Partners, a US private equity firm investing in media, entertainment, communications and information companies, has appointed former AOL executive vice president of programming and products, James P Bankoff, as a senior advisor. In his new role, Bankoff will advise Providence on new investment opportunities and on some of the firm's existing investments in the online and digital media space. While at AOL, Bankoff spearheaded the development of the new AOL.com, which launched in July 2005. He also presided over consumer websites including Moviefone, MapQuest, BloggingStocks, AOL Music and Engadget. Bankoff also led the development of TMZ.com and oversaw AOL's instant messaging services, AIM and ICQ, and social networking and community applications including Blogsmith and Netscape.com. He serves on the boards of directors of Audible, Qloud, Sportsblogs and Network for Good.
