US private equity firm Hopewell Ventures has promoted Jeffrey J Lampe to principal and Matthew J McCue to vice president. Lampe joined the company as a senior associate in May of 2005, and McCue joined as an associate in 2002. Most recently, Lampe was co-founder and senior associate of venture firm Gazelle TechVentures. McCue's primary responsibilities include the identification and evaluation of investment opportunities, market and industry analyses, pro forma financial modeling and various support activities for Hopewell's portfolio companies. Hopewell targets private equity investments across the US Midwest.
Fisher Lynch Capital has promoted Anthony J Limberis to managing director. Limberis joined Fisher Lynch as a director in 2006 and is based in the firm's Boston office. Prior to joining the firm, Limberis was a portfolio manager at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and managed the Foundation's private equity portfolio, including investments in LBOs, growth capital, venture capital, subordinated debt and distressed security funds. Limberis was previously a senior analyst at Lucent Asset Management and a consultant at Cambridge Associates. Fisher Lynch Capital has over $800m in committed capital. The firm invests in buy-out funds, venture capital funds and sponsored co-investments.
Dirk Boogmans has resigned from his position as president-CEO and director of Belgian venture firm GIMV, citing personal reasons. The board of directors has requested that he continue carrying out his responsibilities until 1 July 2008. Boogmans has been CEO since 2001 and president-CEO since 2003. If the functions and the responsibilities of the president-CEO cannot be transferred to a successor by 1 July 2008, chairman Herman Daems will temporarily take on these responsibilities, said the firm in a statement.
Silver Lake Sumeru, the mid-market investment group of technology-focused private equity firm Silver Lake, has appointed former senior vice president of Adobe Systems John Brennan as managing director. He will be based in the firm's Menlo Park office. Prior to Silver Lake Sumeru, Brennan held several senior positions at Adobe Systems. Previously, he also served as senior vice president of SMB segment operations at Hewlett-Packard. Early in his career, Brennan worked in Accenture's electronics and high tech practice and as a portfolio manager at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. In January of this year California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) acquired a 9.9 per cent stake in Silver Lake.
Nordic private equity firm EQT Partners has hired Thomas Ramsay as partner and head of EQT Partners in Finland, enabling Udo Philipp, interim head of EQT Equity Finland, to return to his position as partner in Germany. Previously, Ramsay was a partner at Industri Kapital in London and Stockholm where, between 2003 and 2006, he was responsible for the firm's Finnish team. Prior to Industri Kapital, he worked at Salomon Brothers in London and Ahlcorp in Finland. EQT has 80 investment professionals based across offices in Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Munich, New York, Oslo, Shanghai and Stockholm.
Baird Capital Partners, the US-based buy-out fund of Baird Private Equity, has appointed Michael Bernstein as an executive-in-residence focused on healthcare services investments. Based in the Milwaukee office, Bernstein will help the team source and evaluate new investment opportunities and also support existing portfolio companies. Most recently, Bernstein was president and CEO of healthcare IT company Innovative Health Strategies, which was sold to IMS Health in December 2007. Prior to that, he was president and COO of health insurance holding company Cobalt Corporation. Before joining Cobalt Corporation, Bernstein served as executive vice president of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation and as senior vice president for University Health Care in Madison. Baird portfolio companies in the healthcare sector include medical revenue cycle management company MedData, surgical devices business Ellman International and outsourced pharmaceutical services provider Campbell Alliance Group.
Permira has appointed Daniel M Healy as senior advisor to the firm. Based in New York, Healy will advise Permira on opportunities across a number of sectors, with a focus on financial services. Healy is the former CFO and executive vice president of North Fork Bancorporation. He served on North Fork's board of directors from 2000 to 2006. Prior to North Fork, Healy was a client partner at KPMG, where he specialised in financial services, technology and other commercial enterprises, and also served as a managing partner in KPMG's San Jose and Long Island offices. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of KBW and Hiscox and chairs the independent directors audit committee for both firms.
