US early stage investor Originate Ventures has appointed Glen Bressner as a managing partner of its Originate Growth Fund and Fred Beste as an advisory board member. Bressner and Beste co-founded the Mid-Atlantic Venture Funds in 1985. Prior to Originate, Bressner served as a general partner of MAVF-IV and on the boards of geoVue, TapRoot, CorePROFIT and RealWinWin. He has also been chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group and serves on the investment advisory committee for Ben Franklin Technology Partners. Beste is currently the vice-chair of the board of Ben Franklin Technology Partners.

Expansion stage venture firm Granite Global Ventures has hired four partners from Shanghai-based SIG Capital. Zhuo Fumin and Jessie Jin have been appointed managing partners, and Michael Kuan and Steve Chu have been appointed venture partners. Fumin currently serves on the boards of directors of Focus Media, Shenyin Wanguo and China Enterprises. Jin currently serves as a director on the boards of Yadu Environment and Life Biomed. Prior to GGV, Kuan was an analyst and vice president at Capital Corporation of America. Chu previously managed the Asian M&A business at UBS and the Asian corporate finance business at Banque Paribas.

European fund of funds manager Access Capital Partners has promoted of Bernard de la Brosse to partner/CFO and Martial Lauby to investment director. Brosse joined Access six years ago and prior to that worked for Invesco Gestion in Paris. Lauby has worked for Acces since October 2007 with prior experience as a partner at Deloitte Transaction. Access was established in 1999 and currently manages €2.5bn.

Technology-focused venture capital firm Globespan Capital Partners has appointed Dr Daniel V Leff as venture partner, based in the Palo Alto office. Prior to Globespan, Leff served as executive vice president and managing director of Harris & Harris' Los Angeles office. Previously, Leff worked for Sevin Rosen Funds and Redpoint Ventures. He has also held engineering, marketing and strategic investment positions with Intel Corporation. Globespan focuses on US and Japan-based companies in the software, internet, infrastructure, communications, systems and peripherals and cleantech sectors.

Los Angeles-based private equity investment firm Brentwood Associates has promoted Steve Moore and Eric Reiter to partner, Rauhil Aggarwal to managing director and Toros Yeremyan to vice president. Moore is currently a director of Filson Holdings, Paper Source and ThreeSixty Asia. Previously, he was the director of Zumiez. Reiter is currently a director of Array Marketing Group, Monarch Designs and The Teaching Company. He is also active in the corporate development efforts of Oriental Trading Company. Aggarwal is currently a director of Exhale Enterprises, Pacific Island Restaurants, Spectrum Clubs and Zoës Kitchen. Yeremyan is currently active in the corporate development efforts of Array Marketing Group, Filson Holdings, Paper Source and The Teaching Company. Brentwood focuses primarily on consumer-related investments in mid-market growth companies.

Healthcare-focused venture capital investor MPM Capital has appointed Robert Millman and Elizabeth Stoner as executive partners. Both will be based in MPM's Boston office. Previously, Millman served as chief IP counsel for Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Alnylam, he served as chief IP counsel at Infinity Pharmaceuticals. He has also served as chief IP counsel for Celera Genomics and patent counsel for Millennium Pharmaceuticals. Stoner previously served as SVP of Global Clinical Development Operations at Merck. She also oversaw the development activities of Merck's Japanese partner Banyu and Merck/Schering-Plough Joint Venture for Zetia/Vytorin. MPM primarily invests in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and medical devices sectors.

Pan-European venture capital firm Wellington Partners has hired web entrepreneur Loïc Le Meur to join its venture partner programme. Le Meur will support Wellington's portfolio companies in the field of digital media and internet services. Le Meur moved to San Francisco in 2007 to start his own company, Seesmic. Existing venture partners include Royston Hoggarth, former CEO of Cable & Wireless UK; George Colliat, group vice president at Oracle; Fred van den Bosch, former founding CTO of Veritas; and Ram Srinivasan, former CEO of Fireclick and a full-time venture partner in the firm's Palo Alto office.

China-focused venture capital firm Northern Light Venture Capital has appointed John Wu as a venture partner. Wu will be based out of the firm's Shanghai office and will be responsible for evaluating and sourcing new investment opportunities in early and growth stage consumer and technology-enabled businesses. Prior to NLVC, Wu was chief technology officer of Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group. He most recently worked on the post-merger integration between Alibaba and Yahoo! China. Previously, he worked for Yahoo! as chief architect of Yahoo!'s directory search engine and its software applications. Prior to Yahoo!, Wu was a development manager at Oracle. NLVC was founded in 2005. In January of this year the firm closed its second fund, Northern Light Venture Fund II, on $350m.

Nordic private equity firm EQT Partners has appointed Peter Korsholm as head of EQT Equity Denmark, leading the firm's Copenhagen office. The appointment comes after former head Ole Anderson decided to step down after five years. Previously, Korsholm worked at Morgan Stanley in London, before joining EQT in 1999 and becoming a partner in 2006. The announcement follows days after EQT appointed Thomas Ramsay to head the firm's Finnish operations.

Quadrangle Group has appointed Alice A Ruth as a managing principal of Quadrangle Group and CIO of Quadrangle Asset Management. Ruth most recently served as CIO of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, where she oversaw the management of a $6bn investment portfolio. Prior to that, she was senior managing director, co-director equity research at Banc of America Securities/Montgomery Securities. Quadrangle invests in media and communications companies through separate private and public investment strategies and across asset classes through its asset management business.
