Private equity firm Sun Capital Partners has appointed Michael J Satzberg as managing director. In his new role, Satzberg will be responsible for the continued development and management of the distressed debt and loan portfolio. Previously, he was at Jefferies & Company as senior vice president. Prior to that he held various management positions at 1838 Investment Advisors and Coopers & Lybrand. Sun Capital Partners specialises in investments and leveraged buy-outs of mid-market companies. The firm recently acquired Kellwood Company.
New York-based Marathon Asset Management has appointed Mehmet I Budark as director of their new office in Istanbul, Turkey. Budark is a director in the firm's emerging markets group. Previously, he worked at Carlyle Group and Goldman Sachs. He was also professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies where he taught private equity investing in developing countries. Marathon specialises in global debt, equity and real estate. The firm has $20bn in assets. They have offices in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles
French private equity firm Butler Capital Partners has appointed Lionel Mestre and Roland Tricot as directors. Mestre previously worked at PAI for ten years and prior to that at PricewaterhouseCoopers for three years. Tricot joins after working for seven years at General Electric. The investment team now has twelve partners that focus on investing in distress and special situations. The firm recently acquired Virgin France, the French branch of the Virgin group of labels.
Early stage venture capital firm Castile Ventures has appointed Skip Besthoff as a general partner. Besthoff previously worked for Rho Ventures. He has been on the boards of several software and services companies, including Everdream, IntraLinks, Megapath and Verified Person. Prior to Rho, Besthoff worked as a manager for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Castile provides financial backing and strategic guidance to help entrepreneurs build technology businesses.
BNP Paribas Private Equity has appointed Daphné Dussauge as head of corporate development. In her new role, she will be responsible for ensuring the development of the offering as well as the selection and distribution of private equity in France and overseas. Dussauge joined BNP in 2006 as a fund manager at BNP Real Estate Investment Management. Prior to BNP, she worked as a consultant for Nordroy. She also served as a senior banker at Credit Lyonnais and as vice president of corporate finance and private equity at Union Bank of Switzerland in Paris. Previously, Dussauge worked as an associate in the corporate finance department of Lehman Brothers. She began her career as an analyst in the M&A team at Plaza Securities Company.
London and New York-based private equity firm TowerBrook Capital Partners has appointed John Sinik as a managing director. Sinik will be based in the firm's London office. Sinik joins TowerBrook from UBS, where he was global head of leveraged finance and European head of private equity coverage. At UBS he also served as a member of the investment banking global management committee. Prior to UBS, Sinik invested in private equity transactions for Bankers Trust and was a management consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. TowerBrook has approximately $2.5bn under management. The firm targets control-oriented private equity investments in large and mid-market companies in Europe and North America.
