San Francisco and New York-based private equity firm Paine & Partners has hired Bjarni Ármannsson and Frank O Reite as operating directors. Ármannsson and Reite will focus on opportunities in the Nordic region, with an emphasis on the seafood, energy and financial services industries. Paine & Partners is currently investing its $1.2bn Paine & Partners Capital Fund III, raised in 2007.
Private equity firm Stone Point Capital has appointed Philip V Moyles, Jr as senior advisor. Moyles will work with the investment team to pursue investment opportunities and manage its current insurance industry portfolio, according to a statement. Previously, he was executive vice president and CEO of the Americas for Marsh Inc. He also led the formation of MARI. Based in Greenwich, Connecticut, Stone Point's Trident IV fund recently acquired a minority stake in field services company Cyprexx Services.
Odyssey Investment Partners has promoted William Hopkins and Brian Kwait to co-presidents, Jeffrey McKibben and Craig Staub to managing principals, Robert Aikman and Ross Rodrigues to principals and Dennis Moore and Matthey Satnick to vice presidents. Hopkins and Kwait were two of Odyssey's founders. Prior to Odyssey, Hopkins worked for the merchant banking group at GE Capital Corporation. Previously, Kwait worked at Bear, Stearns & Co. McKibben previously worked as an associate at Saugatuck Capital and Marakon Associates. Staub served as a vice president at Westbury Equity Partners and The Shattan Group, while Aikman worked as an analyst at UBS Warburg. Rodrigues previously served as an associate at Fenway Partners and an analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston. Prior to Odyssey, Moore worked as an analyst for Salomon Smith Barney. Satnick worked as an associate at Saunders Karp & Megrue and as an analyst at Lazard Freres. NY-based Odyssey makes majority, control investments in mid-market companies.
US venture capital firm Thomas, McNerney & Partners has appointed David S Tierney as entrepreneur-in-residence in its Connecticut office. Previously, Tierney served as CEO of Valera Pharmaceuticals, president of Biovail Technologies and senior vice president of drug development for Roberts Pharmaceuticals. He began his career at Elan Corporation and currently serves on the boards of Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, Nexmed and Bioject. Thomas, McNerney & Partners is a healthcare-focused firm with approximately $600m of capital under management. The firm was recently involved in a Series C round of financing in biopharmaceutical company Ocera Therapeutics.
PIPE investment fund manager The NIR Group has appointed Paul Schwartz as director of client services. Schwartz will report directly to Corey Ribotsky, the firm's chairman and CEO, according to the firm. Prior to NIR, Schwartz held senior positions at Spencer Trask Securities and Josephthal Lyon & Ross. He also held various finance-focused positions at multiple public companies.
The Blackstone Group has appointed Kemal Kaya as a senior advisor based in the firm's Turkey office. As part of Blackstone's global private equity team, Kaya will focus principally on developing business initiatives and advising the firm on potential transactions in the region. Prior to joining Blackstone, Kaya was the CEO of Turkish financial group Yapi Kredi Group.
Private equity and hedge fund investment firm Private Advisors has appointed Matthew Baker, Jennifer Buckley and Rickard Fischerstrom as managing directors in the firm's London office, led by Jens Bisgaard-Frantzen, the former CEO and managing partner of ATP Private Equity Partners.
