Saw Mill Capital has promoted former vice president Timothy Nelson to principal, and Peter Coyne has been hired as vice president. Prior to joining Saw Mill Capital in 2008, Coyne led strategic sourcing for engineered product business Crane. He also spent several years at Danaher, where he managed a sub-plant and held multiple operational assignments. Before Danaher, Coyne was an investment professional at Mellon Ventures.

Life sciences venture capital firm MVM Science Partners has appointed Dr Eric Bednarski as a partner based in the firm's Boston office. Previously, Dr Bednarski was a partner at Advent Healthcare Ventures, a spin-out of the life science venture team of Advent International. Prior to joining Advent, Dr Bednarski was director in the corporate finance group of Silicon Valley Bank. His experience in starting, building and monitoring biopharmaceutical companies will enhance MVM's investment capacity as it launches its third life science fund, MVM Fund III, according to the firm.

Mid-market private equity firm Norwest Equity Partners has promoted Todd SolowTom Schauerman and Andrew Cantwell to principal. Solow, who joined NEP nearly five years ago, currently serves on the boards of directors at Becker Underwood, Pangaea Asset Management, Shock Doctor and Wealth Enhancement Group. Schauerman joined NEP ten years ago. He has led investment activities for NEP portfolio companies including CVI Melles Griot, Deep Rock Water Company and Rosetta Stone. Cantwell joined the NEP team two years ago. He currently serves on the board of directors at Longwood Industries and helps lead post-investment activities at Lindstrom Metric.

UK mid-market private equity house Dunedin has promoted Andrew Pickup to investment director. Pickup's primary responsibility is to source investments in London and the UK's South East. He has a particular focus on the support services, healthcare and education sectors. Pickup joined Dunedin in 2005 from Sand Aire Private Equity. He began his career in 1996 with CIBC World Markets, performing M&A advisory, before moving on to CIBC Capital Partners. Dunedin closed its most recent buy-out fund in 2006, on £250m.

UK mid-market private equity firm Bowmark Capital has appointed Paraag Davé as an investment manager. The firm has also announced the promotion of healthcare and leisure sector expert Mark Salter to senior partner. Davé joins Bowmark from start-up private equity firm, Paradigm Global Partners, where he was an associate. He began his career at strategy consultancy firm Monitor Company. Salter joined Bowmark in 2001 from Bank Austria, where he helped establish its UK private equity activities. His investments at Bowmark include the Education and Adventure Travel Group, Kisimul and The Regard Partnership.

Venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates has appointed Tony Florence and Paul Walker as partners. Florence will focus on growth stage IT investing activities, while Walker will concentrate on later stage biotechnology and life sciences investments. Walker is based in Menlo Park and Florence works from the firm's office in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Florence joins NEA from Morgan Stanley, where he was a managing director. Walker previously worked as a general partner with MPM Capital's MPM BioEquities Fund.

European mid-market private equity firm Palamon Capital Partners has appointed Gary Pritchard as CFO. Pritchard joins from specialty insurance and reinsurance group Catlin Group. He had been at Catlin for 12 years, most recently as CFO of the UK division and head of finance operations. Pritchard qualified as a chartered accountant in 1995, having started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Palamon is currently investing its second pan-European fund, Palamon European Equity II.

Tom Hodson, Harry Schulman and AJ Wasserstein have joined Baird Capital Partners, the US-based buy-out fund of Baird Private Equity, as operating partners. They will work with BCP's sector-focused teams in sourcing, evaluating and overseeing portfolio company investments. Hodson is the chairman and CEO of NeuroSource. He recently joined BCP investment Ellman International's board of directors as non-executive chairman. Previously, Hodson was senior vice president, CFO and director for Caremark International. Schulman was previously president and CEO of Applica.

Emerging markets private equity firm Actis has appointed three new directors to its global infrastructure business. Robert McGregor will be based in the firm's Singapore office to head the South East Asia region, where he will be joined by Vivek Dixit. Sanjiv Aggarwal will join the firm's Delhi office to lead Actis's infrastructure business in South Asia.

Dubai International Capital, the international investment arm of Dubai Holding, has appointed Mark Lunn as managing director, corporate communications. Lunn joins DIC from financial PR consultancy Gavin Anderson & Co, where he was a London-based managing director with responsibility for the Middle East.
