Mid-market private equity firm Fidelity Equity Partners has appointed former Bain Capital principal Ian Blasco as a partner. Based in the firm's Boston office, Blasco will focus on the technology, communications and business services sectors. Prior to joining Fidelity Equity Partners, Blasco was a principal at Bain Capital, where he worked from 1998 to 2008. While there, he helped lead investments in OSI Restaurant Partners, Sensata Technologies, Advertising Directory Solutions, Unigraphics PLM, Bombardier Recreational Products and MCI Communications. In March of this year, Fidelity Equity Partners completed its fourth investment, taking a minority stake in financial services firm Complinet, for £18.5m.
Clayton, Dubilier & Rice has appointed former ABB president and CEO Fred Kindle as a partner. Kindle led ABB, which supplies electrical and automation equipment, systems and services, through a period of performance improvement between 2004 and 2008. Prior to ABB, Kindle served from 1999 to 2004 as president and CEO of Sulzer, an industrial engineering and manufacturing company. Before that, he served at McKinsey & Company. He is a member of the boards of Zurich Financial Services and VZ Holding. CD&R's portfolio includes Rexel Group, Hertz Global Holdings, Sally Beauty Holdings, HD Supply and The ServiceMaster Company.
The Blackstone Group has announced that Laurence A Tosi will join the investment and advisory firm as a CFO. Tosi will serve on Blackstone's executive committee. He was previously the COO for the Global Markets and Investment Banking Group of Merrill Lynch & Co. Before that, he was senior vice president and finance director responsible for Merrill Lynch's global finance organisation, including worldwide accounting, regulatory reporting, budgeting and corporate development.
Paul Capital, a private equity secondaries specialist, has opened offices in Hong Kong and Sao Paulo. To support this expansion, the firm has made three senior appointments: Duncan Littlejohn, who has served as a consultant to Paul Capital since 2007, joins the Paul Capital secondaries team as a managing director. He is responsible for managing the firm's Sao Paulo office and for transactions across Latin America. Littlejohn was previously a partner at Brazilian private equity firm BPE Investimentos and its predecessor, Brasilpar. Lucian Wu joined the Paul Capital Secondaries team in April 2008 as managing director to head the firm's Asian office. Wu is responsible for leading Paul Capital's secondary investment activities across Asia. He was previously a partner at Henderson Private Capital in Asia and a founding member of Electra Partners Asia. Jason Sambanju joined Paul Capital in August 2007 as a director and opened the firm's Hong Kong office.
