SVG Capital has appointed as finance director and an executive director of the company. She joins SVG from Barratt Developments where she held an interim position in M&A, integration and strategy. SVG Capital's investment objective is to achieve capital appreciation by investing principally in private equity funds that are managed or advised by Permira. SVG Capital's fund management business, SVG Advisers, manages or advises investment vehicles that invest in private equity or public equity using private equity techniques.
US early stage technology venture capital firm Benchmark Capital has appointed Matt Cohler as a general partner. Cohler will continue to work with Facebook, serving as special advisor to the company's management. In his new role, Cohler will focus on identifying investment opportunities in internet-related services and work with Benchmark's portfolio companies. Cohler currently still serves as vice president of product management at Facebook, overseeing the company's product development organisations. He joined Facebook in early 2005 as one of the first five employees hired by the company's founders and its first external executive hire. Previously, Cohler was vice president and general manager at LinkedIn, a company he helped found.
Jonathan Russell, managing partner buy-outs at 3i, has been named the new chairman of the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. Russell succeeds TVM Capital chairman Helmut Schühsler. Russell joined 3i in 1986. From 2000-2005 he was chairman of EVCA's Buyout Committee and a member of the Association's Executive Committee.
New York-based private equity firm Aquiline Capital Partners has hired former Oliver Wyman managing director Mark S Rodrigues. Rodrigues was also global head of strategic information technology and operations at Oliver Wyman, where he advised financial institutions on operations, risk management, sourcing and technical innovation. Prior to Oliver Wyman, Rodrigues was general manager of Global Financial Services Group and a member of the executive committee at American Management Systems. Previously, he was a principal at venture capital firm Safeguard Scientific.
Barcelona-based cleantech private equity firm SI Capital Partners has appointed cleantech veteran Guillermo Briones as chairman. Briones will become a minority shareholder in the firm. Briones founded Spanish wind power developer Terranova in 1991. The company merged with CESA in 2005, with the merged entity bought by Acciona for €1.4bn, in 2006. SI Capital manages the SI Capital R&S 1 fund. The fund was launched in 2007, seeded with €10m, and has a target size of €80m. To date, SI Capital R&S I has acquired minority stakes in Enerstar Solar Thermal Project, Bernalia State Renovables and Solynova Energia.
Norwegian mid-market private equity firm Norvestor Equity has promoted Henning Vold to partner. Vold joined Norvestor in 2001 as an investment manager. He has worked primarily on projects within the technology and service sectors.
